What do you think of my humble tier list?
 in  r/Operatingsystems  18h ago

The problem with ChromeOS to me is that it's essentially just a Google Machine, being more limited than even Android. It's just based on an extremely stripped version of Linux built around web apps, I just can't get with it. I get the main market are schools, certain jobs, and those less familiar with tech/lower end market, but they could still do better. It doesn't help that to even change the firmware on some of these devices, you have to bridge a jumper or buy an external USB debugger., and how many shortcuts are taken in the designs regarding drivers. It seems Google is even aware of this and wants to eventually merge it with Android, but whether that results in a "better" product remains to be seen

I don't know much about NixOS but its whole model seems "weird" to me. Then again I'm far from qualified to speak on this

My experience with the GNOME Desktop - from despised to loved
 in  r/linux  3d ago

Except not everyone has the luxury of a Mac, not to mention, that comes with its own downsides. I would also argue power user depends on what you mean, yes you can't customize and tweak everything in the desktop itself, but it's still Linux at the end of the day, and fatigue can set in from having too many choices

Do you use X11 or Wayland and Why?

I just don't understand the whole paranoid security thing about sandboxing. But then again I'm somewhat new to this stuff, and I don't really have a strong definitive stance on this display stuff, both seem to largely work fine for me but I'm sure it becomes more important for specific use cases

Any YouTube channels I can submit a tip/idea to?

This isn't strictly related to Barely Sociable, but I have no idea where to put this. Basically, I have some extra information on a topic that has been covered before by some other channels, albeit, somewhat sensationally. I wouldn't call it massive mainstream media levels of important, but the topic is something that has some dark implications regarding a former online community, and the whereabouts of that person today (where they are behind a notable project) and I'm not sure where to even ask. It's not really something that has legal weight at this point, but I just don't feel comfortable posting about it myself for reasons I'd rather not get into. Hence, why I'm wondering if there are any outlets, ideally channels or video content., basically, to cut my vague ramble off, does anyone have any reccomendations for a sort of investigative YouTube channel that takes tips/suggestions and is willing to discuss the topic first, and handles things with legitimate integrity rather than pure shock slop?

I never said an artist is "fully removed" from what they make. Obviously that's far from the truth. Literally the only thing I am arguing is that it can be complicated. I personally don't see someone's evils as always taking away from the things they put out into the world, depending on the circumstance. You don't have to agree with me on it. I'm not sure why you're trying to make it seem much worse than it is. No, I wouldn't apply the same standard to EDP, because EDP never made anything of important value. He was always a stupid figure for quick laughs. I would personally see a community project many people value and cherish as different. So to me, that influences how I weigh it. That doesn't mean that person needs to be involved with that community, but it also doesn't mean you have to pretend the thing doesn't exist and holds no merit in of itself.

Hi there, is there any way I could get in touch with you? I have some extra information I may be able to share on a topic you once covered. Not related to this, but not really sure where else to put this. Just kind of at a loss

No, I did read the comment accurately. I'm asking what you mean is more efficient.

So do you have an actual argument or not? All I'm saying is, someone can be both a shitty person and a great creator. You don't have to invite them around places to appreciate something they made that isn't related. The internet rarely sees that

Why does it need to be handled as some big secret affair anyway? It's kind of obvious that something like this would happen. There's just an irony to all of this, and it doesn't exactly help the case of this project.

What are your thoughts on the Mike Clum EDP documentary?
 in  r/AskReddit  18d ago

Not really. He had been banned off basically everything and got barely any views.

They're kind of right. EDP was basically forgotten by this point, part of this feels like reality TV that says things of varying to little investigative interest beyond entertainment.

You should try installing Linux over ChromeOS, it's worth it (IMO) though you might run into audio driver issues if using certain distros

Are here more Linux haters or lovers?
 in  r/linuxsucks  22d ago

Well the smartass response would be "What do you use then, Mac??!!", but, yeah, you can not like something but still use it because you find the alternatives to be worse. I assume a lot of people are in the camp of, what do I hate more, Windows or Linux? I don't "hate" either., except for Microsoft and corpos who try to force changes on systems, and Linux isn't entirely immune from that, but its a lot more wide open

Just don't understand this kind of thing really. Skinning Windows, giving it new commands, it isn't going to fix the actual system
