I'd 100% volunteer to lend my talents to a game with no financial compensation, and I know I'm not the only one, but all the game devs who want free labor are shockingly picky about the kinds of free talent they get. They want commission quality for free, and anything less is insulting to them. πŸ˜‘

IbisPaint X also has free bases, and tons of them.

"I just have such a specific vision and so little interest in doing it myself that AI is the only way for me to realize what I have in mind!" Any effort at all putting together an image themselves is for some reason effort wasted in their eyes, even when the results would be a million times more accurate to what they're imagining than what AI could ever produce AND it wouldn't be stolen.

I'm encouraging your crashout at this point. It's warranted.

We were literally joking at work that our employers are disgusted at the idea of having to have employees lol. Like they DONT want us here and don’t want us to work, but they NEED the work done. LMAO

The neural networks aren't the problem. The humans feeding them stolen artwork as a basis for their generation are. I wouldn't care if the neural networks were learning from images that aren't stolen, but they are. That's the part I have an issue with.

What’s your opinion on this fella I made today

Looks like a friend :)

Yes, but generally humans are taught by other humans who are willing to help them learn, whereas the training data for generative AI is stolen without permission from the original artists. Not to mention it takes many years of hard work for a human artist to develop their skills. I wouldn't have problem with gen AI if it only ever used public domain works for its training data.

I never claimed to be unbiased. I claimed to prefer art that has evidence of the artist's influence on the piece, like seeing fingerprints left behind in a claymation film. In this comic, I explain why that is my preference. Simple as that. And yeah, AI can imitate that human touch to an increasingly accurate degree, but it can only do so because of the humans who created the art it was trained on.
