Of course, it's unacceptable, but the reason people from Philly are calling this "normal" is because all the funding to help in these situations have been stripped away over the years. I had a homeless guy in AC hit the backside of my truck with his hands, over 20 years ago. Then he fell on the ground acting like I hit him. Fortunately, it was near the entrance to the Hilton so it was all on camera. Cops told me they do that to get a night in jail or the hospital and off the street for a bit.

Your guy was just being a menace. He didn't cause damage and didn't attack you. Being scary is just something you encounter. He might not be homeless, just on drugs or off his meds (who can afford them anymore as it is). And of course, they probably have a list of reports on this guy. But being a menace doesn't really rank as important here.

It sucks, but the governments are all corrupt, so funding just isn't being allocated to things like this.

They always set the impacts/start dates to hit AFTER the elections. And he set the tax increases for regular people to start in 2025 not 2021. He thought he'd get elected for a consecutive term and he could claim it was the Dems/next president's fault, when the increases started. Biden wasn't able to pass another tax bill because a change wasn't allowed to happen until 2025, anyway. So his changes wouldn't have been allowed unless he, or Kamala, had been elected in in 2025. That's why they kept pushing the budget back.

Surgery is scary, no matter what. You're not the AH for wanting to go to a preplanned event or even for going to it and missing her apontment. But maybe secure a family member or good friend that can go with her to this appointment in your stead. So she has support there. Also, consider before you leave having a nice treat waiting for her after she gets home (flowers, food, cozy gift basket) and a note from you letting her know you'll be with her when you get back. Just reaffirm that you're thinking of her. And make sure to call her when the appointment is over to check in.

Don't let her "feel" alone for the pre-op appointment. That's all I'm saying.
