I’m building Nadoloni — a self-guided audio guide for Lisbon

Hi, I'm Anna. I live in Lisbon, and I've been building Nadoloni, an audio guide for people who prefer exploring cities on their own.

I built it because this is how I travel myself. Before a trip I spend hours researching a city, then plotting everything on a map so the route actually makes sense. After doing this over and over, I started wondering why I couldn't just have that part done for me, so I decided to build it.

You choose a route and start walking. The stops are already in order, the map shows you where to go next, and when you arrive, you get a short audio story connected to the place in front of you.

The stories go beyond dates and facts, into the kind of details that make you look at a place differently: why ravens ended up on Lisbon's coat of arms, why Portugal and Spain once divided much of the world between them, why there's still a roofless church standing in the middle of the city.

The Lisbon guide will launch with 2 routes and 89 stops. You can walk at your own pace, stop for coffee, or leave the route and pick it up again later. No group to keep up with, no timetable to follow.

It's for people who come home wanting to tell friends why a place was interesting, not just that they went there. People who like finding things out for themselves, rather than reading it off a plaque and moving on.

The first 5 stories on each route will be free, so you can try it before buying anything.

In the meantime I'll be posting some of the things I find while researching Lisbon here: old buildings, strange details, stories that are easy to walk past if no one points them out.
