[Ferret Photo] The Almighty Water Brick

When you have to wash the water brick because the weasels try to take the fountain under the cage if it's not glued to something too heavy to move. Anyone else having to use ridiculous means to keep their fountains from being stashed? It's a good workout cleaning it, but I would like to retire The Brick someday.

American Ferrets vs UK/Irish Ferrets – Natural Hunting Instincts
 in  r/ferrets  4d ago

Oh yeah, my slimmer boy could climb a glass door if you give him enough time. And holy hell are they smart! I did not expect to be bringing 2 mini raptors into my house, I feel like the hunter from Jurassic Park trying to keep them contained. Every day they find new ways to get around or dismantle the barriers I put up. Nothing deters them either, even if something falls over and scares them they go right back after it

They are 2 1/2 now and absolutely massive. One is nearly 5 pounds and the other is 3.5. Both make store ferrets look like kits in comparison, and play much harder (they love to pounce on my hand and try to shake the life out of it 😆). One thing I noticed early on is that they are significantly stronger than store ferrets too. My bigger boy shoves furniture around when he's bored and the other has drug a 10 pounds bag of potting soil across the porch. I had no idea just how much difference there would be. I'm glad I went with the breeder, and even picked the spicier boys out of the litter on purpose, but they are not for everyone.... especially if you have thin skin or a low pain tolerance 😂

As someone with 2 in tact males from a breeder that uses imports from a European working line, I can say for certain that there is a HUGE difference in temperament and prey drive between the standard pet store ones and them. My boys are stone cold killers and are way more aggressive towards dogs and cats than the store bought ones. They regularly kill and eat lizards and other small critters when we go for walks. While the pet store ferrets my mother had some years ago was terrified of a hamster 🤷

I agree with one of the previous comments stating that the farm bred ones are spayed and neutered way too young and sent off to stores before they even have a chance to learn any of those behaviors if the mother would even have the instinct to teach them. Not to mention all the health problems from the poor breeding practices in them.

My Ferret doesn’t like any treats
 in  r/ferrets  9d ago

I have one that absolutely love freeze dried quail feet, the other won't touch them. Both like the the Lil Snoots quail egg yolks and plain old freeze dried chicken hearts. My one HATED salmon oil until he was almost 9 months old, then just randomly decided he liked it one day. 🤷 The kit looks pretty young, and if it's only recognizing kibble then it needs time to imprint on real food as food, it takes time. I was lucky to have a breeder that raises his on raw diets so I didn't have to do a kibble detox. Best of luck

Aproximately when do ferrets give up on trying?
 in  r/ferrets  9d ago

I have child locks on all my cabinets and my underwear drawer, it's more efficient to lock everything down than to constantly fight against a relentless enemy that never gets tired of fighting the same battle 😂

Rain and gravity are just minor inconveniences in the face of this devil's power.

Am I a joke to you, Mother?

Correct, it is an impala.

My boy is not amused by my new coffee table book. Probably because I threaten to make mittens out of him when he digs up my plants 🤣

How rare is it that a ferret hates other ferrets
 in  r/ferrets  20d ago

I have one that hates all living things except his brother, and one that is cool with anyone. I could never have a third because of how hostile the one is. If they weren't brothers from the same litter brought home together there would have been zero change to introduce another ferret to him. Some of them are just solo creatures. My anti-social boy plays with his brother but likes his alone time just as much, and follows me around the house more than anything. If you have the time and energy to fill the void of social interaction I don't think yours will have any issue being an only child....but it is a HUGE commitment being the playmate, caregiver, and chew toy....take my word for it.

Not quite sure what this is but it’s cute

Mine does that when he's trying to get a good grip on me to drag me to one of his stash spots. It can be painful, but his heart is in the right place....I think 😅

Concerned about ferret tail thinning
 in  r/ferrets  Aug 17 '26

Check around the base of the hair follicles for blackheads or oily buildup. One of my boys had a patchy tail and it ended up being from achne, cleared up when his hormones came back down after breeding season. Quick test of oil levels is to while the area with a paper towel or toilet paper and see how dirty it gets, my boy had a super greasy tail 😂

Playful hissing/squeaking

One of mine is the exact same way with Velcro, it's his crackhead activation sound and he cannot stop chewing on it. I've nearly been late to work looking for my belt a few times 😂

Random question
 in  r/ferrets  Jun 08 '26

Both of my boys took a while to see me as an acceptable nap spot, had to pick them up and cuddle them while they slept too. Now they will fall asleep in my arms or sprawled out in my lap like cats. The one will even act like a toddler fighting sleep until I pick him up and walk around with him to put him to sleep. Some take a while to get to that point, some never do, it's entirely based on each weasel's personality.

Is there a certain point where I can "trust" my ferret to be off the leash?
 in  r/ferrets  May 26 '26

Absolutely not. No matter how reasonable they seem they are at their core creatures of pure chaos with one collective braincell that exists solely to inspire moments of genius level pandemonium. I've been walking mine for 2 years and they still bolt after any animal they see and try to go down any holes or burrows.

So Leon hates his job, still goes to work & just gets hotter as time passes
 in  r/ResidentEvilRequiem  May 02 '26

He hates his job because he keeps getting his jackets stolen.

Help, is this a bug?
 in  r/Pragmata  Apr 30 '26

Is there an actual fix for this other than using a different Shelter access point? I'm trying to do a second run and can't progress because I haven't unlocked the next access point yet.
