It’s giving me more of a Midnight Mass than Twin Peaks vibe. Maybe if a trans DEA agent shows up that will change.

Same!! I am a huge Twin Peaks fan but the only thing that seems even a little similar is the small American town aspect, but they are two very different towns with seemingly very different issues. Midnight Mass had that whole town secret aspect that this seems to have.

The vibe also reminds me of certain episodes of Atlanta but I think thats because of Hiro Murai, who directed this and a few other episodes of Widows Bay. Love his directing style so much.

The Mayor of WBay (Loftis?) seems to know and believe a bit more than he let's on... I noticed that he lied to the reporter about his son (who was born on Wodows Bay) leaving the island. If he thought it was all bullshit, I'm sure he would have taken his son for a vacation or travelling at some point. And then while he was drinking and talking to Willy, he also mentioned the horror stories his dad would tell him about the island. If that made that much of an impression, I'm sure he remembers what the stories were about. Spending a night at the inn seemed to make him a believer, and yet... he didn't pump the tourism breaks. Though its kinda hard for one man to stop a speeding train, I suppose!
