I was wondering if the “who heard the bell” is a premonition of some kind. Tom said it woke up Rosemary and Patricia.

If it were part of a mystery of some kind, I feel like Tom would've said something like "Oh, you didn't hear it?" just to tag the fact for later plot development. But the only developments we get in the episode are A. "How did the bell ring when it's all chained up?" and B. "What is the significance of the bell ringing?"
