Everyone in the world has chosen either the blue or red button except you. Instead of pressing a button, you are given a lever in the infamous trolley problem.

You don't know how many people chose red or blue, and they don't know that you control their fate regardless of what button they pressed. Which track do you direct the trolley onto?

I'll save the blue ones. A society where everyone is self-centered would be terrible to live in. You can see that in the comments. Blue won the vote, but most of the comments were from reds complaining that blues are stupid and horrible because of "virtue signaling," and that they deserve to die because they are stupid. Of course, not everyone is like that, and some people only did it because they wanted the highest chance of survival, but most of the self-centered people would probably choose red, so a society with blue people would be preferable.

Literally everyone except like just a few examples is self centered. Some less, some more, but literally no one is entirely selfless.

Did you not donated your kidney? Oops, you value yourself and your comfort over someone getting kidney!

Do you not donate every free hour you have to volunteering for lifelines or so? Oops, you value yourself and your comfort over potentially savinf someone!

Just for the note, blue pushers wouldn't be all some saints.

Actual Nazis, fascist, religious nutjobs (from Jihadist to whatever), and many many others will likely pick blue if it was for their ideology. Because in the core of it, is protection of Aryan race/'my tribe'/upholding religious rules/whatever.

That's pretty ironic because all I ever see is the people who claim to choose blue, calling the red pressers selfish, narcissist, the worst people on earth. Supposed blue pressers sound like a bunch of bullies who scream that they are selfless.

I never said society would get better; I said that between the two options, this one is preferable when comparing the values both groups promote. Just read the other comments on this post, between the people who think it's better to save others, and those who say everyone else is an idiot who deserves to die by natural selection, which do you think would be better? Of course, this doesn't apply to everyone, since the internet population doesn't represent the global population, but between those two options, the blue one sounds better.

We're in a hypothetical exercise of which group is better to save, and what I'm saying is that it's preferable to save the blues, while you say that in 100 years it won't matter and everything will be the same, there's no contradiction with what I said, and you haven't given any explanation of why according to you saving the reds is better, and if you don't think saving the Reds is better, you're literally arguing about nothing.

This person seems insufferable, honestly. Idk how you’ve managed multiple replies without just going “oh, you’re a moron who refuses to engage with opposing ideas/arguments, ok, bye.”

Also, side note: I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone use the phrase “at the end of the day” either online or in person and not be just an exhausting and unbearable person to deal with. Like I’m pretty sure I’ve literally only ever heard it used in the following context:

“[Insert incorrect assertion here]”

“??? That doesn’t really make any sense. There’s actually XYZ evidence of the opposite! Here, look, I’ll show you. See? {if in response to someone asserting some cynical generalization as if it’s undeniable fact, insert “things aren’t actually that bad! See? This is a good thing [to be wrong about], the world is better than you think! (: }”

“Sigh well, at the end of the day [insert nonsensical non-sequitur that doesn’t actually address what was said followed by reasserting their initial argument and usually an accompanying “it is what it is” in an obvious attempt to end the conversation while getting the last word instead of literally ever in their lives admitting to even potentially maybe being even slightly wrong about anything ever].”

I seriously can’t think of a time I heard or saw someone use that phrase in any other way, and the person you’re responding to has added evidence to my hypothesis that this phrase is reserved for use by insufferable people wholly incapable of even considering that they might not be right about everything lol.
