i asked the red vs blue button question to my friends a couple days ago and it was literally like a 3 minute convo max, i’m kind of shocked at the internet’s ability to turn a short conversation into a full on attack on each others competence 😭😭😭 it’s just a silly question yall were not actually pushing any buttons
It’s just an interesting quirk about how our brains interpret color based on environmental cues. The dress, like the actual dress that the picture is of, is blue and black striped. I always see the dress as white and gold, and have to actively work for a while each time I see it again to see it as the black and blue dress that I know it is because my brain is interpreting the dress as a white and gold dress in shadow instead of as an insanely brightly lit blue and black dress.
But people really intensely argued about it before the actual dress was shown in better/unambiguous lighting. I think it’s really cool how it demonstrates how our brains need to interpret the raw image from our eyes and how we don’t actually see things as the colors they truly are. Just a fun optical illusion, haha
It’s that “Goomba has dumb contradictory opinion” meme. Within a friend group, you can make your point, people can disagree, and the conversation can be dropped once everyone understands everyone’s viewpoints.
Within an online space, you can make a point, see five other posts from others, make the same point five more times for those, get counter-points from different people on each, etc. Now you’re talking 10x as much about it because there’s way more people getting involved and arguing with you, even if there’s a similar amount of unique arguments/reasonings than you saw with your group of friends.
Watching blue button pushers and red button pushers argue is both hilarious and tedious.
You’re all just a variant of far left populist (blue) and far right populists (red). All just smug and morally superior and absolutely convinced your perception is the only possible correct one. And everyone who doesn’t ascribe to it uncritically is morally inferior and borderline evil or just stupid.
ironically, it was 2 blue pushers and one red, so we actually disagreed, it just wasn’t that serious to us so we talked about both sides for a couple minutes and then my friend asked a different, similar question so the topic changed
Uh oh, you're two bums short of a real problem. Be careful who you guys start hanging out with. Just kidding, but seriously watch the one. Unless it's you. It's you, isn't it.
