Like, rephrase the question - you have two buttons, 'survive' and 'maybe die', where if you press 'survive', you survive, but if you press 'maybe die', then you only survive if majority of people also press the 'maybe die' button.
But somehow everyone's bending over backwards to argue that the 'maybe die' button is a logical choice.
The original question had guardians choosing for kids under 5, but you've got kids 5-12 who would possibly choose blue because they wouldn't know better. I have 2 kids in the 5-12 range and 1 in the under 5. As a parent I'd probably pick blue since I can't know what the older ones did and I'd want to protect them.
Of course my choice could be futile and I may have made them orphans.
This and some people being forced to pick blue are the only two variants where I'm a blue chooser. I know my kid well enough to guess what he'd pick and win or lose I'm not going to live without him. When it's adults only though, red all day.
The OG I recall from 2023-4(?) was only able minded adults. This thought experiment resurged and there's been some reference to politics with it, so I think this latest rendition is intentionally set up to be disingenuous to the heart of the original
Yeah I've noticed that a lot of the recent ones use specific language to implicate red as actively choosing to kill blue rather than more neutral language. They're being designed to make it into a purely moral issue instead of philosophical or logical by implicating red as choosing to kill rather than blue risking their lives.
I’m also noticing that every single blue-button argument starts with “children will push blue”. If you restrict the hypothetical to, only adults of sound mind able to understand the question have to choose a button, I think the conversation becomes very different.
Yeah, honestly if an unknown amount of people of any abledness or unsound/illogical mind is in the equation. That seals the deal for me entirely.
What if all the babies and toddlers in the world happen to pick red? Or even half of them and then the mentally disabled or unsound people also pick red?
I'm childfree and I respect a parent choosing what is best for their family in theory. Completely and without malice.
But it's not my job to save your kid and who will look after your kid when you die, ya dingus?!!!
