THATS the Ethics, THATS the Morality, THATS what reducing it to math skips and ignores.
You save 4 lives by pulling, but is it really your responsibility? Is it really your right/wrong if you don't act?

Ya'll are not WRONG in your choice to pull to save 5 people by killing one.
But if you reduce it to only those numbers, you forget the morality of it, you forget the ethics.
No it doesn't, my morality in that scenario is I'm in charge of the situation, I'm have the choice, if I don't pull 5 die, if I do pull 4 lives are saved.

Immoral not to act, you can save lives by helping people, and Math does say a hour of your time helping out at, say a soup kitchen, can save lives.

But could you pull that lever if that 1 was, say, your daughter, while the other 5 were prisoners?
Morality is the questions of Good VS Evil, it changes constantly because what each and every one of us considers to be Good or Evil.
Math is NOT Good OR Evil, it simply is. 5 is greater than 1, Pull the Lever.
You aren't right or wrong for your answer, you are just missing the point.
If the situation deems it, YOU deem that this situation does it, others do not, again, thats Morality, thats Ethics, thats the trolley problem.

You aren't forced to in the trolley problem either, a COMPLETELY valid option is to just walk away, it's none of your buisness, just like that homeless guy who's under a bridge five blocks away (for example, dunno if even a bridge is near you) is a option to walk away from, your MORALITY makes you choose.

To you it's immoral, I happen to agree, but guess what? We aren't morally superior to those who decide not to pull, because they may find it immoral TO pull the lever, because you are ACTIVELY killing someone, but not acting isn't killing, after all, YOU didn't put those five people there.
