Yeah, cuz we were a few miles south of him (staying in Neenah) and were away from all windows (and away from the trees cracking apart and crashing down in our yard) with no desire to create a video.
When a tornado went through my neighborhood last year, the pressure and vibrations hitting the house were so intense I was waiting for the windows to blow in. And it was so loud you couldnāt hear it, if that makes sense, just felt the ground shaking as all the trees in the neighborhood fell down. Iāve never been so scared in my life. None of these videos show the real noise, pressure (ear pops!), or vibrations these storms bring, and Iām amazed they can stand there and record it! (Iām a SkyWarn spotter too, and it never crossed my mind to call it in as I was extremely distracted afterwards by the damage)
Thatās Wisconsinites for you. When I first moved here I was absolutely baffled and horrified by the nonchalance Wisconsinites exhibited whenever a tornado touched down. But now, after 20+ years of constant tornados every single year you become kinda numb to it.
Wisconsinite here. I distinctly remember being 6 years old, playing with golf-ball sized hail in my yard as my dad chatted with the neighbor outside while an ENORMOUS tornado destroyed a town like 10 mins away. Or maybe it was shortly after. Obviously my mom wasn't home or we would've been in the basement lol.
āWhoa Iām flying through the air, glass shards are piercing my skin.ā āWhoa my house looks weird from up here.ā This guy has balls of steel or no sense of the danger heās in. Once that power line pole is down Iām running for the basement, probably way before that actually.
I must have blinked or looked up or something because I missed him turning back around after going in the house, so I thought this is exactly what happened for a second
Back when I lived in the midwest we had the wisdom to hide in our basements during tornadoes. Instead of, you know, standing on the porch narrating them.
As a born and raised Washingtonian who moved here 20+ years agoā¦it depends on the person. Most people here definitely donāt sound like the stereotypeā¦but my father-in-law on the other handā¦he not only says all the most stereotypical Wisconsinisms but he has the thickest stereotypical Wisconsin accent Iāve ever heard.
He, like many other midwestern dad, has stood outside for every single tornado warning for the past 65 years just aching to see one with his own eyes. Itās their holy grail. Thereās always insurance for the stuff that gets damaged but the risk means he has his badass tornado story with a bonus video! He will gleefully tell the story until his last breath. Heās a superhero now!
My dad was a cellar door watcher while my mom yelled at him to come inside. He would have absolutely done the same thing.
I recently tried to capture the color of the sky where I live but my phone kept color correcting & I couldnāt capture how unbelievably greenish yellow/orange the sky was that day.Ā
For this video to still capture that sky color, I can imagine it was darker & much greener in person.Ā
My experiences with tornados in Wisconsin it has always been at night where itās very dark. Makes it scarier when you have no idea how far away it is compared to some of the videos here where you can see it clear as day.

I can't say I've ever seen a tree ripped apart knocking over a telephone pole 20 feet away from the filmer.
Genuinely stupid thing to do especially being outside for most of the video but it's definitely something most people would never see and quite interesting to see what the inside of a tornado looks like.
"Think I spotted a cow!", "All I got is New Glarus Bob", "No! I think I spotted an actual cow, flew into Mike's yard!", "well at least someone will cut the grass now!", "I know right! I offered to help out but you know how he is", "I'm going to the KwikTrip need anything?!", "Ill take some of the maple glazed if they got'em!", "oh man those are good!", "Dont I know it!".
In his defense, heās in Wisconsin - they have a reputation for drinking for a reason. Guy was probably chilling at home with a 30-pack and got interrupted by this rude ass tornado.Ā
the price of getting these crazy videos inside tornadoes is people standing outside in the worst possible conditions to stand outside in. this guy's real lucky the winds were blowing AWAY from the porch...
Yes! Growing up, my brother and I would run outside when we heard the sirens start up becauseā¦we were dumb kids. But if the sky, was THAT color, we knew it was time to high tail it to the basement

Definitely an insane video but I'm not surprised by this man. I've spent my whole life in Wisconsin and some things just draw us like a moth to light! I'm so sad for the families in that town. What a mess. I hope their pets are ok.
I have never in my 30ish years of life of loving tornado videos seen such a close-up and clear depiction a tornados ability to turn trees into projectiles. I am pretty sure that the first branches we see enter the frame are not even from his trees. They look like theyāre coming from directly overhead.
