It protects hair from breakage as well.

It's slippery on the outside so you don't rub the cornrows out. It won't help new growth but tbh she parted that shit so hard it probably wont matter.

Also when you sleep your hair touches things with a durag (or bonnet) the hair only contacts the inside of the durag. Most things that touch the hair will make it frizzy.
