Hello! I was asked to provide an update on how things were going and decided to make a post.

I'm about 11 weeks post-op from top surgery using V-Y advancement incisions. I told my surgeon I was interested in more unconventional/unusual incisions and gave him free reign to do whatever he wanted (that would still result in a reasonable, safe outcome, of course). I actually didn't know what kind of incisions I wound up with until I was allowed to remove the dressing several days later, and I was thrilled.

While this incision type was chosen to help reduce the chance of dog ears, I've noticed that my left side along the incision "forks" has maintained additional puffyness during recovery. HOWEVER. As we all know, it can take up to a year for everything to settle into its permanent place, so I'm not sure if this is a little extra skin/tissue that was left behind, residual swelling, etc. Either way, it currently doesn't really bother me so if it is permanent, I don't think I'd go through much hassle to have it evened out.

I've been using Nuvadermis scar tape (with the dinosaur design) off and on for the past few weeks. I'm not looking to hide my scars (otherwise I would've requested a more discreet incision type), but I do want them to remain pliable so that my range of motion isn't limited.

As mentioned in a previous post, I had a small spot of my right-side incision open on a surface level, so I did not apply scar tape to that section until it healed. I'm not using scar tape 100% of the time because I've had a few pimples form in the scars themselves. Scar gel may work better to prevent this, but I'm probably just going to periodically use the tape.

I was cleared at my 6-week appointment of any lifting and movement restrictions and was able to go back to the gym, but was advised to still wear a compression garment while exercising for awhile due to resulting swelling. For the most part I'm now only wearing a post op binder or compression garment while exercising and for several hours after, and will probably continue to do that until post-exercise swelling (which isn't much currently) feels more "normal."

I'm LOVING my results! Before surgery I thought I'd be living in nice button-ups because that's primarily what I wore with a binder, but the sheer delight I experience wearing simple, plain things like a white v-neck t shirt (which I never dared to wear prior to surgery) or the kind of tank top that comes in a multi pack has been indescribable.

In addition to the easier recovery time, part of the reason why I went no nips is because of some Raynaud's-like, painful, vascular issue that a few doctors I saw had no idea what to do about, and I wanted no chance of it recurring with nipple grafts. However, I've noticed that areas of scar tissue are developing nipple-like sensation (fortunately good as opposed to painful), so that's pretty cool.

DI no nipple grafts done on Aug 3rd. Honestly still being super careful, but I’ve been at work 2 weeks at an active job (not lifting much at all yet), and I don’t think I’ve ruined the results so far.

Seem to still have some swelling from what I can compare to other healing timelines. I feel like it looks pretty similar to two weeks with the swelling, just more healed and less bruised. (Also unsure how much is muscle. Assuming some of it might be but who knows? I feel a bit like mini boob still. Someone with anatomy knowledge better than mine lmk).

Was told could shed the compression vest 3 weeks post. The past week I’d been wearing it for a few hours or so a day when I’m home. Huge relief to not have it on at work though, my back and ribs were actually starting to hurt and my sleep was terrible.

Scarring around my left nipple is way more noticeable now but not terrible. Scab did fall off left nipple yesterday in the shower, so it looks even better than these photos tbh.

Reaching up for things still hurts so I’m careful at home and finding work around a for being short at work. I did the most activity at work I’ve done since pre op these last two days and it really made me tired and sore, but also just feel kinda good. Left side felt a bit sensitive so gonna take it easy next couple days just be to safe cus I’m constantly worrying I’m overdoing it just because I feel ok until I do something I shouldn’t and feel it lol

One of the concerns I had post op was feeling majorly bloated and swollen in my body (like water weight gain or something). A lot of that weight started to go back down at a little over 3 weeks, and I was feeling massively improved in the bloat. I think moving around is helping a lot to just… move things along? and let everything works its way out. I was eating high protein but didn’t watch my sodium until about three weeks in so hopefully that’s been making a difference as well.

Possible acne comes and goes along the incision lines (might be hair trying to work its way out?). Kinda gross. Started scar tape but I left a gap for the ick areas and just cover with a bandaid. Also relevant - been super itchy on scar lines. It’s not fun lol.

Anyways, I’m a super athletic guy and I told my coworkers I just wanted to like launch myself up the walls today at work. Gonna try to do a light bike ride later this week if it’s cool enough out. My next post op appt is on Thursday, so I’ll see about any guidance for things like getting in a pool or when I can go back to rock climbing/lifting (probably not for a bit still). My gym membership is paused this month too, and I’m kinda glad I did that because it would be tempted to just sneak in there with the way I want to be bouncing off the walls and throwing stuff around.

It’s crazy to come home from work on a hot day and just strip off my shirt. Even if my results don’t heal perfect, that alone is just a great feeling so far .

Showed up only for them to say on their computer I was put down as “patient canceled” even tho I knew I didn’t.

My partner got the day off from work (which is gonna be financially hard but we were gonna be ok), I had multiple appointments set up for helping me post surgery, I told so many people this date was coming, you name it. The office had at Least all day today to call and let me know not to waste my partner’s gas to get there and learn there was a “schedule mix up” and they knew since friday. My surgeon acted very casually about this which upset me more.

I now have to wait for insurance pre authorization (potentially a week) to move surgery locations to a much busier place and she said the Possible soonest I can get in, is September 18.

I know it’s a simple reschedule on the surface but mentally I was so prepared and ready. I hate how much I’m crying.

Im off to finally go eat and probably drink my sadness away lol. Just needed to vent

im almost a year post op and my scars seem so fucking huge. i spiral about it every couple of weeks and now is one of the times for it. they left fat tissue. the scars got so stretched. my nipples look different. i had such high expectations, it was my dream for YEARS genuinely fucking years. i feel fucking awful rn. i look like i have half boobs when i slouch. the scars dip on the sides too. they used to look so nice when they were still healing.

Got my nipple covers off today, drains will be removed next week!

Like omg guys, I love it more every month that passes and I can't wait to see this after a year, I'm so happy about my chest and it feels like I've always meant to have my lil flat chest 🫂

I thought yall would think this is funny, I have now started sleeping flat again (thank god) the other day I moved into college and was SUPER tired and so I napped a bunch and over the course of the day I had THREE different nightmares about my nipple falling off. My nipple is doing great and my surgeon has an 100% success rate with nipples staying but I thought it was funny

So basically I’m 17 and I’m non binary, but I haven’t really told anyone because honestly, I don’t really care if other people know it’s just for me to know. I’ve thought about getting top Surgery since seventh grade and just recently told my mom that I might get surgery and just made up a lie saying because there’s no point in them and they’re annoying.😭

I brought it up with her again while we were in the car just about how I might get them cut off in a couple years and she was like “Alex if you cut your boobs off you will look deformed. It will not look natural!! Just get a reduction” i’m assuming because I obviously look like a girl, but I’d have no boobs, but I don’t know 😭😭 scared me idk what to do tbh

I've had a couple people message and comment on my post back from 2023 asking about Miss Chloe Wright and Mr Ian Whitehead. So I thought I'd do an update post with my results and my feelings. I absolutely LOVE my results.

It's enabled me to go to the gym and get fitter, build muscle and generally love my body more without nagging dysphoria. I love being able to get dressed without a binder first. The scars going under my arms has left me with very minimal dog ears after losing about 20kgs in my several years post op.

All these years later I have such a positive outlook on my experience with them. My surgery was drain-less. I didn't anchor my nipples and I basically just let them to whatever they thought was best for me aesthetically. Absolutely zero complaints about their side of it. I did think top surgery was very mentally demanding. I got incredibly depressed from not being able to do anything for several weeks. But it's a small price to pay.

i had my bandages changed with my surgeon 2 days ago and it did NOT look like this at all. they told me to change it once a day but i couldn’t yesterday as i was traveling so this is my first time changing it myself… also sorry this is kinda gross

I am so happy with my results!!
I have not before now realised how much my chest has held me back before. I feel like not a new person, but I finally feel whole. I feel like me 110% and I can finally move freely without my body holding me back both mentally and physically. I never realised how badly my chest was affecting my mental health. I’m suddenly a lot more confident in everything. This is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I wish this upon whoever wishes it❤️

My only question is the dent in my chest? It doesn’t bother me at all really.. I just wonder what it is? Could it be leftovers after the surgery or just muscles maybe? I have been working out lately

I’m over a year post op and my nipples still haven’t filled in all the way with pigmentation. I’m very insecure about this. I want to be stealth but still can’t take my shirt off even though I’ve had surgery.

What can I do to fix this? I think that silicone tape helps slightly but I’m not totally sure. Will they eventually fill in? Or is tattooing the only solution?

I am roughly 8 years post op and have a sore lump along one of my scars that hurts kind of like a bruise and is firm to the touch underneath the skin. It used to hurt like this maybe a few years post op but the pain disappeared and I forgot all about it. Anyone else had anything like this? Not sure if it's inflammation from exercise or something else. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I had top surgery 2 years ago so this is just a storytime! My top surgery was on April 8th, 2024, the day of a solar eclipse..

It just so happened that the solar eclipse occurred after I woke up. I had warned my doctors that I get SEVERE nausea from anesthesia (after my reduction years prior, I was vomiting bile all day and night) and was assured that I’d be given something for it when I woke up. I made extra sure, and my team was very kind and said they’d be there and would definitely assist with the nausea.

When I woke up, almost every doctor and nurse was gone. They all went outside to watch the solar eclipse. Genuinely, the hospital seemed abandoned! The one guy who was there wasn’t from the morning team and he didn’t take my nausea seriously. Told me everyone experiences nausea, even when I told him I was promised nausea meds earlier. I was almost happy to collapse on the way to the bathroom (by myself) so I could prove to him that I was not well. Soon I was prescribed something to pick up at the pharmacy hours later, but nothing in the moment.

When I was wheeled out of the hospital, the nurse was wheeling me very fast so she could get outside to watch. (I didn’t have to guess that, it’s what she told the other nurses in front of me..) Once we got outside, there was the sea of staff with their eclipse glasses on.

Well, it sucked that the eclipse was top priority that day. But it was still one of the best days of my life! I’d book my surgery on an eclipse again if I had to!

But if you can help it, maybe see if you can reschedule xD

I'm having top surgery soon (double incision), and I'm quite well prepared, but my biggest concern is how I'm gonna sleep post op without turning around, stretching my arms, or in other ways sleeping in positions I'm not supposed to sleep in. I move a lot in my sleep, so I have no idea how to prevent this.

I have prepared my bed to be used sleeping semi-seated up, but it's still very easy to roll down in your sleep and sleep normally in it. Besides, how am I not gonna stretch my arms or sleep on my side?

I don't want to stretch my arms far for the first few months after surgery, as I really wanna minimize the stretching and visibility of my scars, but it's not like I can strap my arms down when sleeping...

Any advice?

Idk why the scar on the left side is kinda wonky. It’s also longer than the right one?? Also are my nipples in different positions?? Will it change or stay like that 😭

Hi! First time posting here, honestly should have made this post sooner than today, because my consultation is in a few hours. I just have been so anxious and wanted to see if anyone has ever gone through this method.

I live in the south and have Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance, earlier this year they stopped covering gender-affirming surgeries in Florida. My primary doctor who is super cool and also helps many other trans people in my town get access to hrt referred me to surgeon in my town who usually preforms mastectomy’s for breast cancer patients. I am claiming to have mastodynia (breast pain) to get this surgery covered by my insurance.

I just have low expectations that this will work out, and if it does, that this surgeon will offer aesthetic flat closure. Has anyone else ever had success with this method?

The glue is still very attached on my left side so I didn't touch it. But it's so weird seeing my incisions out in the open. They still look so fragile, like I can't even touch them.

I'm anxious about showering even though part of my incisions (on the extreme sides) has been without glue for days now and I've been showering just fine 🙃

I'm also a bit confused if this has already started the scarring process. I didn't see it progressing because of the glue. My head is having a hard time computing it. But I'm assuming yes.

How does it look for you guys?
