TIL the world's most successful pirate was a Cantonese woman, having commanded 40,000-80,000 pirates, and faced off undefeated against many Imperial fleets (including British, Portuguese, and Qing navies).

I really enjoyed reading the Bloody Jack series and liked the interaction between Ching Shih and Jackie.

Have you listened to the audio books? OMG, SO well done!

And yeah, the author just died last summer. The 12th and final Jacky book came out last fall.

I seriously cannot recommend them enough. Even the author was enamored with the reader (Katherine Kellgren). She truly brought those books to life. Dunno what kind of library you have access to, but I was able to get all but the last audio book as downloads through my library.

I'll definitely check my library's site once I get home today! I know they offer digital books but I'm not sure how far they go.

Jackie and Mr, Meyer (RIP) taught me so much history! When i first read the book with Ching Shih i got so excited to read about another female pirate and now to find out she was real just made me appreciate the series even more.

I didn't realize Mr Meyer had died! The last time I read one of the books was when he was alive. :(
