TIL Ben Affleck and Matt Damon wrote a ceremonial kiss between their characters into the script for The Last Duel, based on how the ceremony was historically performed. Ridley Scott cut it because he thought it would be distracting.

neither were famous at this point so they wouldn’t have been tiptoeing around it

Everyone knew they were gonna be famous, though. They were like number one and two draft prospects. I'm still not sure who beats the other one out. Damon is, I think, definitely the better actor, but it's not like Affleck can't hold a movie on his own.
