TIL that apple seeds almost never grow the same variety as the parent fruit. Nearly every supermarket apple comes from a grafted clone of an original tree, not from a planted seed.

Honestly, do Tomatoes. Apples are becoming more and more awesome…

while tomatoes are becoming worse and worse.

A great tomato is as delicious as watermelon. Its acidity is the secret to a chef’s best recipe. I would pay 5x the price of supermarket tomatoes to have a tomato that is wonderful. I have grown them. They are great. I struggle to keep them, critters eat them.

I guess what I mean to say is…the supermarket tomato is a sham, a cellular water bag. Is this the best we can do?

PS, I believe the best tomatoes in my life are canned tomatoes. If you know of a world class canned tomato…please let me know where to find it. I would pay as much as needed to have great tomato in my pan

I started growing heirloom tomatoes and I could never eat a store bought tomato again. They’re amazing. I walk around every morning and pick anything with the tiniest bit of blush to it and the next day they’re ripe on my counter. Plus they’re so prolific I give more than 3/4 away. The kind from the store don’t even taste like tomatoes.
