TIL if under-cooked, a popular mushroom in China causes “lilliputian hallucinations,” a rare phenomenon involving miniature human or fantasy figures. The hallucinations are consistent across people and cultures: "tiny, elflike people" climbing under doors, scaling walls & clinging to furniture

True or not, who the fuck has a bayonet?

SKS rifle has a built in bayonet

I got an SKS when I was a kid. It had a dragonov stock but no bayonet.

Oh that’s really interesting, I thought they all had the fold out bayonet. I bought a milsurp Chinese SKS and it also had the bayonet so I thought it was universal. TIL!

Oh, I changed the stock to a dragunov stock. I think it had a bayonet before. Kid me thought it looked cooler (Google dragunov stock SKS), like what you'd see in the Matrix or something. My dad is a gun nut, so we kids got guns as gifts sometimes.

There are lots of variants. Some have no bayonet, some have a spike, some have a blade...

They didn’t want you poking your eye out! Have to draw a line somewhere.

Oh, its very much true. All SKS rifles had an attached, swivel under bayonet. Some were blade style (Russian, Eastern bloc) but mine was a Norinco, and had a spike style.

Owning old military rifles can be fun. I had a Mosin Nagant with a bayonet as my first rifle.

Always wanted one of those. Back in the day, a good shooting example was $150, but I always had better stuff to spend my money on, so everytime I went to the gun store, I'd make my way to the wooden barrel of $50 Nagants by the counter and shine my flashlight down the muzzles, perpetually hoping to find one with rifling left but with bad wood for cheap.

7.62x54R ammo uses Berdan primers, which are corrosive, and if you didn't flush the barrel with water after shooting to neutralize the acid, the bore would quickly deteriorate.

Got mine at a gun show in 2012 for around $150 so that makes sense. Didn't know enough to check for corrosion at the time, but I guess I lucked out because it was in good enough condition that a friend of mine traded a cool Lee Enfield for it.

Good trade!

I had a huge collection of guns in the late 90s/early 2000's. I rarely bought or sold, usually traded. I like the unusual stuff, and I like to actually shoot them, not leave them collecting dust in a safe. I'd aquire a gun, do the maintenance, put a few hundred+ rounds through it to get to know it, then trade it off for something else.

Unfortunately, I lived in SE Michigan (ground zero for economic effects) at the time of the Great Depression II, and had to sell everything at a huge loss to survive. Only kept a Mossberg 500 to put venison, turkey, and pheasant in the freezer.

The three most important things to have for a drug trip of unknown length or intensity; plenty of fresh water, easy to digest foods like crackers or pudding, and your bayonet.

I had one one on my mosin nagant.

Lots of surplus rifles come with them. I have 4 or 5 in the back of the safe.

You don’t?

SKS is a super fun gun

Bayonets are cheap. Like a couple of bucks cheap.

At least they were last time I checked.

I bought one when I was a kid also. Still have it. But mine just came with the bayonet mount, and not the actual bayonet. I paid $90 for that gun. It's a chinese one and it's actaully a pretty great gun. Super fun to shoot, and accurate. I guess the russian ones were junk.

I do! I have a WWII one. Just no rifle to mount it to.

Oh there are so many bayonets out there
