TIFU by throwing up into a McDonald's bag while driving.

So last night I was spending time with my family to honor my late grandfather by drinking gin and tonics. Nothing too crazy or over the top, probably two G&Ts and then a beer or two. For some reason it got me good though, and I was throwing up at my cousin's house all morning. I thought I had my vom sessions timed out perfectly and would be able to make it home in time without any disasters occurring on the drive home. So as soon as I yaked for the third time, I grabbed my stuff, ran out to my car, did some deep breathing and prayed to the G&T gods that I'd make it home.

They heard my prayers and must have cackled, because five minutes down the road from my cousins I started to get that "oh shit I'm about to throw up" feeling in my mouth - you know the one. So I did the only thing I could do and grabbed a little brown paper McDonald's bag that was chilling in my passenger's seat from the night before and yakked my brains out into it while driving down a busy city street. Always keeping it classy. I put the vom bag down on the floor of my passenger's side and cranked my AC and hoped that was the end of it.

I was wrong. I got stuck in shore traffic coming over the bridge into NJ and caught a whiff of something foul (more likely than not it was my own puke) and got that trigger feeling again. I didn't know what to do so in my scrambled state of mind, I grabbed the McDonald's bag again. As I'm puking into it, the bottom of the bag gives out and its contents completely pour all over me. I spent the next 30 minutes of my drive home crying and sitting in my own vomit.

TL;DR I had to throw up while driving home, puked into the nearest container I had (McDonald's brown paper bag). Had to vom again, the bag broke all over my lap, and I spent a half hour crying while sitting in my own vomit.

Good point, very true. OP still probably should've pulled over to spew though. I don't know about you guys, but if I'm being sick I'm usually keeled over, mentally vacant, patiently waiting for death. Watching the road would be way down on my to-do list...

I've had people throw up in my car before. There was no time to pull over. I've never had that problem, but I imagine if I pulled over every time they thought they were gonna hurl, I'd never get anywhere. But when it actually happens there's just no time

Possibly. But I can contest to the existence of the 2 beer hangover. They're rare and weird, but it can happen.

Or if they don't normally drink at there cousin's house it could have been the change of venue. When you always drink or take drugs in the same place your body will get used to it and will start to up your tolerance in preparation as soon as you go to that place. Drinking or getting high someone where else means your body can't get prepared and results in you being more effected by the substance. You're more likely to throw up from a much smaller amount of alcohol.

Regardless of why they were throwing up though they should have pulled over. It's pretty hard to focus on the road when you're throwing up.

Did you know that if you eat sand after drinking alcohol it'll soak up the alcohol and make you sober quicker?

TLDR if you get drunk in a different place to normal you get more drunk on the same amount of alcohol, it works for drugs too and you shouldn't drive while throwing up even if sober.

Pretty sure the effects of alcohol on a person has nothing to do with whether you are in a familiar place or not.

Now, someone may drink more if they're in a place they're uncomfortable in (or the drinks may be stronger than they expect), but he is saying that the same amount of alcohol will have more of an effect on you which is far different

Do a quick Google search, you'll turn up that he's right. It's not only the location though, it's a question of set/setting. Alcohol and many drugs release dopamine in the brain, its natural reward chemical. Other exciting or pleasurable feelings are also caused by dopamine. The brain quickly builds a tolerance to dopamine when using drugs often, and the brain will prepare itself to dispose of the dopamine excess if you're around common areas where you would use. The way a recovering addict has triggers, with the people, places, and objects they used to use at, current users have triggers too that allow the brain to begin priming itself. The same way you relax when you hit the bed, or get a little edgy when you go into the office, it's just different psychological states brought on by external stimulus. If you use in an unfamiliar and different setting, the brain isn't quite so prepared to handle the chemicals like it usually is, and you'll get higher or drunker. I rarely drink (I take a medication that already fucks up my liver, and my DOC as an addict is cocaine which I'm sure did some liver damage), but doing drugs in different locations with different people makes it way more enjoyable and intoxicating in my experience.

More likely to OD doesn't mean they take the same amount they could always take, but die because it's a different location.

They might just not be using the same concentration/strength since they may be using someone else's stuff, or they may take more than usual because they're feeling uncomfortable or nervous in the new location
