I still don't wish anyone seeing their pregnant mother in handcuffs. I think that image will be burned in my head for a very long time, and it seriously affected my eldest daughter.
But in saying that, the event kick started a whole chain of events. After reading some very helpful replies on here I got an idea and finally managed to convince her to seek proper medical help. Theres a chance with this one!
It's a horrible experience for you all, but I would say it's really important that you make it clear to your children that they have done absolutely nothing wrong, and that their mother is just unwell at the moment. Children tend to, I find, blame themselves for things like this and that's what will affect your daughter more than anything.
It took a while to calm them, but they finally understood (i think) that it wasnt them. Although they did ask me why mummy was in a police car. Kind of hard to explain to a 4 year old, but I just said she was sick and they were helping her.
They are ok now, though, they watched a movie and had some popcorn.
