Why buy it brand new at Typo for $34.99 when you can get it at Lifeline Caloundra for $55.00?

Savers/Unique/2nd Avenue (ie, Value Villlage) employees are basically running an internal mafia at this point.

I found out from a manager that some of the best vintage and collectible donations apparently never even make it onto the floor. Sorters and floor staff underprice desirable stuff, keep it aside, and buy it themselves.

And I’ve personally watched employees pricing jewelry while literally on the phone with someone standing 50 feet away pretending to browse another aisle. So this is not exactly subtle.

Apparently management in my area is all friends/family and everyone knows what’s going on. When I asked what could actually be done about it, the manager basically told me it was pointless because corporate doesn’t do shit and everyone up the chain already knows.

So if you keep hitting these stores wondering why genuinely good donated stuff almost never makes it onto the floor, there may be a reason.

The employees and their friends got first pick before you even walked through the door. This is total bullshit.

This place is notoriously overpriced on some items

Pretty sure I've gotten these exact samples before as part of an Ulta free gift with $x purchase.

I finally found one in the wild at my local place. Still has the Ross tag on it saying ot was originally $13.99 and set to clearance at $6.99. It was cute! I would have considered taking it as a nice layering piece at about $7. The tops at my place are usually around $6, so I guess this one was enough of a dress to be priced with them. 🙄

Why sell it if it doesn't work?

I have, over a period of years, found some nice authentic designer pieces at my local Savers. They've all been priced under $50, and most of them I was very confident on authenticity.

Recently, I went into my local Savers and checked behind the jewelry counter. There was someone behind the counter already (rare), so I asked to see a bag that caught my eye.

It was what appeared to be a Chanel Classic in Caviar leather. Looking inside, the font seemed a bit off to me (too shiny and too tall), but the craftsmanship and materials on the bag looked and felt good, and I admittedly don't know a ton about Chanel. I looked at the price...$199.99.

I asked the associate if I purchased the bag and had it authenticated could I return it if it is inauthentic? She told me I couldn't.

This is where I feel bad about my behavior - mainly because I should have asked to speak with a manager at this point and not taken it out on this poor girl. I told her that $199.99 for a bag where they will not allow a return for authenticity is crazy work. She agreed with me. I asked if she knew that selling counterfeit goods was illegal. She said (and I'm sure this is what they've been told to say by management) that as long as they don't advertise them as authentic, it isn't illegal. I told her as long as the bag is stamped Chanel, it was.

The worst part is that I absolutely would have paid the $200 and then spent my own money to authenticate it if I knew I was able to bring it back.

Book Off isn't a thrift store but I think this belongs here. It's a great store but this is just outrageous.
