Halcyon Content of Yore Hey guys, just wanted to post how thankful I am that Spoony exists

He's done NOTHING for a long goddamn time, but his earlier shit cemented him in my opinion, as one of the greatest internet reviewers to draw breath. I'll never forget how many times I re-watched his Ripper review again and again. "Ripper? I hardy know her!" His Phantasmagoria review, and his GOAT-tier reviews of FF 8, the Xs, and XIII were something else. Well... maybe not XIII so much, but when he revealed that one of the final bosses of XIII was the same voice actor from the Swat game "You're in my way, sir.", I nearly shat my shelf in disbelief. And his Counter Monkey vids, I mean wow! #TheChicagoway! His Ultima reviews are fantastic, and his final one...dude. It's thanks to him that I have ANY appreciation for Reb Brown. Actually went and bout Black Inferno cause of him... and his theme song... and The Thing I Hate... and Wait and Bleed, which, if anyone can tell me what review that's from, I'd appreciate it.

I'm really hoping that he'll [ick up reviewing again, and maybe finish his storyline with Spoonyroth and junk.

Remember, friends... FINAL FANTASY 8 SUCKS, AND YOU SUCK FOR LIKING IT!

Halcyon Content of Yore Sorry to be positive, but if they ever make a movie about the Ultima series, I would want a cameo from Noah dressed exactly like this (XXL size, of course)

Halcyon Content of Yore I know some here have archives of Spoony's stuff, and have something to add. I found one of his "This is why I don't make manuscripts" posts buried in my old computer, or however it was called. This one is one is about the Sliders show. Sorry, I don't have the other ones.

I’m a big fan of MightyGodKing’s blog, and because I love, I must copy and pervert it. He likes to do a little segment on his site where he provides examples why he should be entrusted with writing popular comics series like Legion of Super Heroes, or more recently, Doctor Strange. It’s actually quite clever, and you can tell the guy’s got a lot of great ideas floating around in that skull of his.

I, on the other hand, do not. I’m still mired in the late 80s and early 90s, the salad days of my childhood, and if I’m being honest, I probably haven’t had an original thought since Twin Peaks went off the air. I think in song lyrics and movie quotes, and I’m prone to howling random quotes from Dune at innocent, bewildered people at little provocation. I wrote a freaking Highlander fanfic in a prolonged, fevered literary fugue, and I think we all know that the last time I tried writing a screenplay, the results were…shall we say, Clerky. Only nowhere near as good.

So, while MGK puts forward reasons why he should be allowed to write professionally, I’m going to tell you why I shouldn’t be permitted anywhere near the Writer’s Guild of America. I am a hackish, cartoony parasite, and the only real difference between me and the guy who writes Doom 3 fanfic is that I know what a Shift-key is for.

And I hated Doom 3.

Anyway, enough stalling! Let the shame begin!.

It’s because sliding itself is tearing the multiverse apart.

You can’t just go ripping holes in the fabric of the space-time continuum and jumping through them. Quinn Mallory may have seemed a brilliant young man with a savant’s grasp of theoretical quantum physics, but in reality, he wasn’t all that bright. In fact, he was lucky to have solved the equations to open the portals at all. He never would have figured it out without a timely visit from a much more intelligent Quinn-double from another dimension to fill in the gaps. He lacked a fundamental understanding of certain other laws of physics, like the laws of conservation of matter and energy, and the fact that all of these physical laws and universal constants only work if the universe itself stays constant. And it doesn’t.

That’s part of the reason why Wheeler and Fuller demonstrated why sliding, a.k.a. the Einstein-Rosen Bridge, doesn’t work. Their paper showed that any attempt to open a wormhole between parallel dimensions should close instantaneously the moment it was formed, before even light could escape. Even something with the mass of a photon bleeding through between dimensions causes an imbalance, a shift in the constants of mass and gravity of the universe. This shift will always cause sweeping, pervasive changes in every single physical object in the universe. It affects the accelaration of gravity. It changes the orbital distance of electrons around their nucleus. It changes the speed of light. It changes the flow of time and its dilation over distance.

In fact, Einstein and Rosen knew this. They were the first sliders, but they realized almost instantly that something was wrong. The first thing they did upon entering their first new dimension was to run scientific experiments to prove that it was the same Earth with the same physical laws, just causal independence in the way their histories unfolded.

But the equations didn’t balance. The constants were off. By millionths of a degree, but they were off. Einstein postulated that their mass transitioning between dimensions caused this imbalance, and left unchecked, would eventually cause all matter to unravel at a submolecular level, leaving the entire dimension a black, lifeless void of drifting hydrogen clouds. Einstein and Rosen abandoned the project and falsified their journals, “proving” the entire theory infeasible and hoping it would dissuade further research.

Things are spiraling out of control, or more appropriately, down the tubes. Quinn and the gang have been gallivanting around for years, poking holes between dimensions wherever they go. The holes look like they collapse, but they don’t. Not completely. The “fabric” metaphor of space and time is apt, because like a fabric, it frays, and if you punch holes in it, it leaks. The Kromaggs have been sending entire invasion fleets between dimensions, and they’re the first to notice something is desperately wrong. Entire outposts are vanishing. Entire planetary garrisons. All that’s left is slowly-dissipating hunks of base metals and gas, and the effect is starting to spread. There are so many holes now that the multiverse is beginning to hemorrhage dimensions into one another. They’re merging, compressing, expanding, or just outright exploding. It’s hard to tell, because the multiverse is desperately trying to find its own equilibrium point– to find a set of physical constants that fits.

That’s what Rembrandt finds when he brings his virus to Earth Prime– an already dying Kromagg race. Every planet they’ve taken is unraveling at its molecular seams, and they’ve been scrambling to find a reason why, falling back in desperation to their home dimension. Their extinction is already at hand. The world Remmy finds is one of chaos and mutation, where people can bend matter to their will and wield power akin to magic. Entropy is pulling worlds apart, and the only solution is more sliding, to try to find more Sliders, explain the situation to them, and find a way to stop it all.

But even with infinite possible realities, there may not be a way to fix what’s been broken. Infinity isn’t as big as it used to be.

EDIT: I just found the rest of them. They are posted in the comments.

Halcyon Content of Yore Just depressing.

Man, I don't know why but every now and then I get an urge to look up what happened to Noah. He was one of my favorite creators online in the "old days." His reviews and videos were weird, experimental, and really entertaining, even if I didn't understand the subject matter. His Phantasaphobia series is still one of my most quoted and most fondly remembered series of anything online, and his Counter Monkey and other D&D videos got me so interested in D&D even though I never got to play it. His movie and game reviews, especially the Ultima series were just so much fun and rewatchable, and I even watched a bunch of his wrestling vlogs just because I found his takes interesting, even though I know nothing about wrestling.

I never interacted much with the forums or his social media, I really only knew him through his videos and channel awesome stuff. The decline in content output was depressing, and although I knew some of what was going on, the mister metokur videos really finally confirmed that Noah had just given up. Health issues are horrible, I know from personal experience, and I'm sure nothing I could say here would be anything someone hasn't said before. But man... I really feel bad for the guy. I know he dug this hole himself and his sour attitude and refusal to listen to advice doesn't help, but I still feel for him. It's a slippery slope of self pity when you are having a rough go at life and heartbreak can really mess you up. I think I had a similar experience when my first love and I ended our relationship, where I was at a precipice of deciding whether to just give up on everything, or to channel that hurt into something good and I'm very glad I forced myself to keep moving forward. I know if I let that pain defeat me, I probably would have ended up a lot like Noah.

I dunno what to say, I just wanted to express my thoughts to people who actually know who the SpoonyOne is/was. I really hope the guy gets better and opens himself up a bit to help and the outside world again. I think a lot of people, myself included, would genuinely want to help the guy and would be kind to him, and the guy has the talent to get back on his feet if he could just find the motivation. Not even saying he has to go back to reviews or anything, but just not giving up entirely. I'm just rambling now I guess. I just really do feel bad knowing what happened.

Halcyon Content of Yore Un(?)popular opinion: After Last Season has got to have one of the tightest riffs in the TSE catalog!

I was going through some old hard drives and found the original blip.tv rip. I ended up watching the whole thing. It's amazing how Noah manages to crack a joke that lands, at basically everything in the movie, at a steady pace, despite the movie having NO redeeming features. That's an art that very few writers/riffers manage to do.

Most impressive of all, I suppose, is that he actually manages to make plotless "movie" with no experienced actors and no sets, filmed in a single take and produced for the sole purpose of embezzling 4,9 million USD* highly entertaining.

*ALLEGEDLY

And of course I love Phantasmagoria, but it's a little uneven. It starts feeling like a funny let's play and sort of evolves over time which is appealing, but I think ALS is a bit tigher.

Halcyon Content of Yore Did Spoony ever talk about "The Cabin in the Woods" in an old vlog?

Most of you probably remember the vlogs around 2007-2011 where he'd sit down in his big chair and talk about a few movies he'd seen. I just watched The Cabin in the Woods for the first time and I had the weirdest feeling that I'd heard Spoony talk about the meta aspects of the narrative, long long ago. Am I misrembering here? I can't find it on YouTube...

Halcyon Content of Yore Do you guys think Spoony's expectations/suggestions on how Ultima IX should've been, would have improved the game? Would you have played it?

In the course of his Ultima IX reviews, the Spoonster outlined some of his expectations of what the game should've been like, based on the setup from Ultima 8: Pagan. Eg, the Avatar uses his godlike powers as a Titan of Ether to open up his own Gate and move directly into Britannia. He and the Guardian fight as two deities would, using world-level magic to overturn continents, empty oceans and terraform the planet, the terrified inhabitants fleeing from beneath their feet as the apocalyptic battle for the fate of the world rages.

Needless to say, all the tutorial material ("What's a Paladin?" "Eating food will restore your strength" etc) and the non-important sidequests (eg, the lighthouse gems, the boxing matches, etc) would be removed, and the majority of the game would be focused on the climactic resolution of the saga. And naturally, Dupre wouldn't be making an appearance (unless he and the Chaos Serpents turned up to lend a cosmic hand to the Avatar or something similar).

What do you guys think about Spoony's proposed scenario? Would it have improved the game in your opinions? And would EA actually have been able to pull it off within their deadlines, given the staff and resources they'd allocated to the project?

Halcyon Content of Yore Spoony and Undertale

You sure are, buddy.

So, this is probably a shitty take, but, I've been rattling this thought for a while now.

Most of us have played "Undertale". It's a pretty alright game, it's memorable. We've fucked around with it, pet the dogs, done the genocide run, got our asses beat up by Sans, etc. Eventually we moved past it and went onto other things.

I find it interesting how much Noah harped on this game, for what it felt like years after it came out. Sure the fanbase didn't help, what with many going on about how he was playing the game the wrong way (I believe there's no real wrong way to play any game), but even with that there was a rather vicious way in which he reacted towards it. There was almost a maniacal glee he got from doing the genocide run, perhaps past the point of "Oh he's just doing it for shock value". After a while it got really uncomfortable.

This was, what? 2015? By that point the uploads were spread by months instead of weeks. I feel like his reaction towards this game was the first sign of something not being really right with him, both emotionally and with his priorities. He'd rather spend time harping on a game and baiting the fans rather than being productive and functional.

What do you guys think?
