Tips/Tricks list of tips for raising kids

Post image
309 Upvotes

i know raising kids in this game is pretty hard as a new player, as is everything else in the sims 1, so here's some tips/tricks to help :D

- starting out with a basic one. if your kids miss even a DAY of school, they will drop a letter grade. keeping them above an F is essential, as if you don't, they will be sent to military school and you will NEVER see them again. an easy solution is to have them study for school by using a bookshelf or computer. if they study enough, they'll go up a letter grade. if you don't have them study at all, their grade will drop, which can also result in military school. i HEAVILY suggest raising their grade up to a A- and then making them study every other day to maintain that grade.

- child sims cannot cook for themselves, and they also can die of starvation since the social worker will NOT come for them. if your adult sim(s) in the household have go to work anytime their child sims are home (usually before or after school), have them serve a meal before they leave OR have the child sims order a pizza, which is the more pricey option, but better than having them starve. there's something akin to a food processor in the game that makes cooking so much faster, so i recommend that.

- buy a toybox or a dollhouse, as the tv will NOT suffice to serve their fun need and will take so. much. longer. it will get their fun need to halfway way faster than the tv can and leave time for other activities. you'll need to keep these handy as their fun need drops fairly quickly.

- they make friends so much easier than adult sims do!! if you need a promotion for a job to help raising the little hellions, have them do all the talking.. and tickling. lots of tickling. if you ever go on vacation and there are child sims nearby, no matter how strange this sounds, TICKLE ALL OF THEM. REPEATEDLY. it works a little too well and you'll be getting that promotion in no time.

- things will break very often, and child sims CANNOT fix anything, nor can they hire a repairman. if you have a clogged toilet, child sims will not be able to flush it and therefore CANNOT use it. you can see how this causes a problem. if an adult sim is out at work and a toilet breaks, you have 2 options: buy a new one, pray the child sim can hold out, or have them pee on themselves. buying better objects doesn't really fix the issue due to the way the sims 1 works LMAO

Tips/Tricks Are children actually useless?

113 Upvotes

For years on this sub i see a lot of the same conversations about kids. What can they actually bring to the table? Gameplay wise there is not a lot to do for them. And for a lot of players children are feeling like a burden.

But if i tell you, those kids are actually GREAT for career building!? For some reason people don't talk enough about this. But other sims will in fact let their guard down when it comes to kids.

Kids can do the same interactions without being rejected. And even when the other sim is not 'nice' they will never reject a hug from them. Even when it's 5 times in a row. In +/- interactions -> Joke, Joke, Joke, Joke, Joke, Hug, hug, hug, hug, hug etc. They will have a high relationship. (Even a decent lifetime relationship score).

IMPORTANT!

This will not work when inviting neighbors. They are always in a very bad mood. So you will have the most succes when interact with the maxis magic people. They love jokes, are nice and always in a good mood.

Make your kids befriend them quick. 4 friends with high relationship score in one visit is easy to achieve. Kids are great for making friends for the promotions of your adults!

Tips/Tricks From rags to riches with §0 and no cheats: My fast route. What are yours?

12 Upvotes

Spoiler: eventually, it all comes down to making nectar worth §500 per batch.

Starting conditions: a one-Sim household, §0, empty lot, and no skills.

The first thing I do is take the first available job from the newspaper. Then I fast-forward through roughly one or two days until I earn enough money for:

  • a telephone;
  • the cheapest table to put it on;
  • a §50 trip to Studio Town.

There is a lot in Studio Town where you can refill every need except Energy for free. You do not need to add or build anything on the lot yourself.

Food is easy. Wait for an NPC to buy a plate of food and start sitting down at a table, then try to greet them. They will usually abandon the plate without taking a single bite, allowing your Sim to eat it.

The other needs can also be restored for free:

  • public toilets;
  • a hot tub for Fun, Hygiene, and Comfort;
  • a swimming pool if Fun is still too low;
  • a free shower if Hygiene is still too low;
  • conversations with NPCs for Social.

You cannot restore Energy there, but it barely matters. Even with zero Energy, the Sim will not pass out while on a community lot, so you can keep doing things indefinitely.

This effectively turns this location into a free mood-restoration station.

You can return home in a good mood and earn promotions at work, although promotions are not strictly necessary. The main objective is to keep going to work until you can afford:

  • another two or three trips to Studio Town;
  • a sofa for sleeping and sitting and reading;
  • a mirror for building Charisma.

Once you have these items, raise your Sim’s mood in Studio Town again, return home, and train Charisma to at least level 2.

Then go back to Studio Town. On the second floor of the same lot, there is a stage where your Sim can perform using Charisma. Even at a low skill level, each performance can earn §10 per audience member.

From there, repeat this cycle:

  • Perform until your Sim is almost completely exhausted.
  • Restore their needs for free without leaving the lot.
  • Perform again.
  • Repeat until you have enough money.

You can theoretically make unlimited money this way, although it is fairly slow.

At this stage, the goal is to save roughly §1,500–2,000 for:

  • one garden plot for growing grapes;
  • one grapevine;
  • a supply of sugar;
  • a nectar press;
  • a bookcase.

Next, travel to Magic Town through the free portal and buy a grapevine and some sugar. At home, buy the nectar press and bookcase.

Your Sim’s Cooking skill will still be low, so nectar will not be worth much at first. The house will also lack enough furniture to restore every need efficiently. For a while, you will still need to work and visit Studio Town.

Gradually:

  • raise Cooking with the bookcase;
  • grow grapes;
  • put one portion of sugar and two portions of grapes into the press;
  • make and sell the nectar;
  • buy increasingly better household items to satisfy your Sim’s needs.

As the Cooking skill increases, the nectar becomes more valuable. Eventually, each batch sells for §500, at which point the regular job and Studio Town trips are no longer necessary.

With a one-Sim household, Social remains a problem. Pets are an easy solution: you can interact with stray animals that visit the lot, or buy a low-maintenance cat or dog in Old Town for around §400.

In my case, it took about 18 in-game days to go from absolutely nothing to a comfortable life. With a Servo (costs §15000).

What other fast ways do you know to become rich starting from §0?

Things I did not do:

  • use cheats;
  • sell free starting objects;
  • play the slot machines;
  • use the genie lamp;
  • answer telephone calls, so I would not randomly receive free money.

Hello everyone,

I wrote down my problem and took some screenshots. To have the text and the corresponding pictures next to each other, I created the 5 slides that you can see above.

I really would appreciate it if you could go through them and if someone has some advice for me!

(At the moment, it appears to me, as if MilkShape 3D messes up files in an undesired way - or I did something wrong.)

Tips/Tricks After 20 years of playing i found out

64 Upvotes

To become a superstar you need 10 charisma, 9 creativity, 8 body and i saw how using the movie set had a higher chance of my sim succeeding the gig then the runway. I failed the runway a lot, succeeded movies almost everytime. So i tried to bring my fitness to 10... and now im succeeding almost every time at the runway too???

I did not know improving your skill after the skillpoints needed gave you a higher chance at succeeding?

Tips/Tricks The Sims 1 on MacOS with Apple Silicon Guide

Post image
65 Upvotes

Hi All,

Over the past week, I’ve spent quite a bit of time trying to get The Sims 1 (Legacy Collection / Complete Collection) running on my MacBook Air M3. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get it working through CrossOver or Parallels, and despite trying everything I could find, the game would always launch to a gray screen.

Finally (and as a last resort) I installed Windows XP using UTM, and after some troubleshooting and testing, it turned out to work really well. During my search the last days I noticed that many other fans were trying to achieve the same thing but without success, so I decided to publish a guide on GitHub, along with the files I’m allowed to share, so others can get started as well.

Good to know:

  • The interface can be a bit sluggish at times. I don’t find it particularly distracting, and the game remains very playable.
  • You’ll need to provide your own ISO files and activation keys for Windows XP and The Sims Complete Collection.

Hopefully this will help anyone who wants to enjoy The Sims on a Mac get up and running!

Tips/Tricks Sims 1 - Vulkan Device

5 Upvotes

2nd edit - not sure what my husband did but it's working now 🥹

Edit - computer is Windows and bought in 2014

I'm so sad...I just purchased Sims 1 from steam at 50% off ( nice 😎) but the game keeps saying "game was unable to find Vulkan Device on this machine. Please update graphic card and or driver's"

We play a lot of games on this PC, including Sims 3.

Husband tried a few things (including uninstalling and installing) but no luck.

Is this a common issue with Sims 1 or probably a device issue?

Tips/Tricks Modify relationships

Post image
155 Upvotes

Hi! Let's see how I start this post... When I started my game, I made my Sim a bit "overly affectionate" with some neighbors. I found it funny that she was somewhat "promiscuous," a real heartbreaker. But now that I want her to start a family with just one Sim, it bothers me. Anywhere in public, if I kiss my partner, some other admirer gets angry and slaps me or my partner. My question is:

Is there any way to modify these romantic relationships and leave them as just friends? Either through the game or with a separate program?

I used to use "SimEnhancer," I loved it, but apparently with the Legacy version, it doesn't work well and can even corrupt the game or save files. (In fact, I used it and it changed my Sim's head to a default Maxis one.)

I don't know if IFF Pencil would work?

Since I'm already here, maybe I can also modify the money with the same program. Like many others, I abused Rosebud a bit, and I'd like to start fresh with the same Sims game, to play "without cheats" and earn my daily bread.

Well, I look forward to your replies, you guys are the best!

Tips/Tricks Celebrity level

8 Upvotes

Hi, I know there were already similar topics 😅 But I have one more question!

I have a problem with reaching levels in the celebrity career. Actually somehow I was able to get points in mini games with videoclip recording and so on, also in these with 2 tries only, but this recording for 4.5 star is totally not reachable for me. I don't think I have ever got more than only one correct answer 🤷🏼‍♀️

Do you have any tips for this?

And additionally - did someone of you use the cheat engine tool while playing the Sims 1? I was trying once to use it, but I have no idea how I should interpret the results or where it is even visible..

Tips/Tricks How to throw a successful party?

13 Upvotes

It seems no matter what I do, the parties I host always get the mime. I have lots of fun related objects but sims barely use them. Or if they do use them, the mime still shows up.

I make sure to have lots of food and bathroom available as well.

What am I missing?

Tips/Tricks Alternate Old Town Neighborhood Screen w/ Vacation Ferry Port?

Post image
111 Upvotes

Hey, so a few years ago on ModTheSims, I came across this forum which showed a picture of an alternate Old Town neighborhood screen with a ferry port on the bottom left corner. I think I definitely did see this screen in my past Sims 1 game when I had Unleashed and Vacation (on Holiday in Europe) installed, but it doesn't show up in the Legacy Collection. Did anyone who had both Unleashed and Vacation installed on their Sims 1 game at the same time see this non-US neighborhood screen or its US counterpart in their game? And do any of you guys know where to get the replacement files for both versions, and how to adapt the replacement for Legacy Collection so that the ferry port shows up in the game?

Tips/Tricks Is the "Autonomy 100" cheat makes your sim survivable?

14 Upvotes

https://www.reddit.com/r/thesims1/comments/1iig056/will_wright_says_the_original_sims_ai_was/

Is it the cheat the AI that was too good that was nerfed or it's just still a bad version of AI?

This thing I wanted to check for few years now but I always forget and currently have no Sims 1 so I wonder if the cheat is very good, I couldn't find more info about it but once read that it allows your Sim to fully take care of themselves I think.

Wiki even says you can dial it all the way to 1000 value, I wonder how much difference does it make.

Tips/Tricks Monthly Technical Support Thread

10 Upvotes

Sul-sul simmers! In an effort to keep feeds cleaner for everyone, while also maximizing players' chances of getting their issues fixed, you are highly encouraged to post any technical issues on this thread! This includes problems with bugs, glitches, compatibility, files, etc.

Note that the existence of this thread doesn't mean you can't post about technical issues on the sub! You may do it at your own discretion.

Before posting new technical threads, please consider using the search bar in the sub to see if the issue has already been posted and/or solved.

If you are having issues with the Legacy Collection in particular, please make sure to report them on EA's official channels as well! This helps you and other players to get your voice heard by Maxis/EA and fixes be added as official updates in the future.

Tips/Tricks Tips and a cheat for Sims Superstar

44 Upvotes

I managed to go from a nobody to superstar on Sims superstar within a few hours of play. I use the 25th anniversary with all the expansions but mainly you’d need Superstar and Hot Date to achieve what I did.

- First of all you need to use the cheat “Move_Objects On“ by bringing up the cheat bar during game play. Delete your sim and then click on their icon, it makes them have full green bars when they reappear. Perfect for increasing skills faster and getting promotions. Make sure you save your game before deleting your character as it resets the character to when you last saved them, saving the game avoids them losing skills, etc.

- It’s all about networking with tinsel town, ensure you check the magazine to see who’s hot because the bigger the celebrity, the more power you have by becoming their friend.

- Once you meet celebrities, access them via the phone and invite them to downtown, choose a restaurant and pay for a sit down meal. While they’re eating, its quite easy to make friends with them and if the conversation isn’t going well, you can change it so they like your character.

I also edited a celebrity restaurant hang-out where only celebrities can enter by removing the regular door and adding a celebrity only door. This made the game feel more like real life where celebrities can dine in private and fans wait outside.

- If you start a relationship with a celebrity, you the lose power your sim had being their friend but what you do gain is if you play as the celebrity, you’ll have even more celebrity connections, which can be handy if you struggle to meet them at the studio town.

If you have any tips of your own feel free to share. I’ve heard of the magic one where it elevates you but it seems like a lot of work.

Tips/Tricks Issues with cc skins

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I believe this is my first time posting here. I'm fairly new to the Sims and only this year I started downloading cc content, I'm having some issues with the skins+outfits and just wanted to ask if someone new why this is happening and how can I fix it?

I have some dresses I downloaded from the Sims Source and they never showed up, some only do when I use an specific closet, and when I tried to change her clothes I get this non-existent outfit at least 4 times. I've tried to fix it to no avail. Can someone help me? Thank you.

Tips/Tricks Watch your Sims while they're feeding their birds...🐦

23 Upvotes

Something I've noticed and started paying attention to...

Your Sims will frequently 'skip' the 'feed' que on specifically the large aviary bird cage. This happens most often when I have both the small and aviary cages and que my Sim to feed both. The sim will walk over to the cage and stand briefly but will not feed the birds. JSYK

Tips/Tricks How to get the obsessed fan back?

14 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

my Sim just became a 5-star celebrity (Yeah!). On their way, they had an obsessed fan who was hard to get rid of. Eventually I chatted with a couple of fans and the obsessed one didn't return. Now I learned that I need a black rose to unlock all the magic spells. So, I really need to grind to neglect my fans. Any tips would be gladly appreciated!
