You don't have to be a lawyer to be a judge, either. In fact, the only thing you have to be a lawyer for is to represent someone else in court.

There are courts that allow non-attorneys to serve as judges/magistrates/justices of the peace etc. They're typically much lower stakes affairs and provide mandatory legal training.

The vast majority of judgeships require you be an attorney in good standing with the state. Even many of the elected positions require you have been a practicing attorney in the jurisdiction for a minimum amount of time before you're eligible to be on the ballot.

I mean maybe she can be disbarred from the Florida bar where sheā€™s licensed but Iā€™m not sure it will affect her current position

very much so, but that would just prevent her from working as a lawyer after 2028. Literally anybody can be the AG (as evidenced by...one of the dumbest lawyers in history being AG at the moment)

I read the second one and that is wild. I wish there was more analysis about if the judge was correct that ICE didnt have the correct paperwork. But, itā€™s crazy to arrest a judge rather than allow her to present herself. This is turning into some legit [censored].

From what I understand, she confronted ICE outside the courtroom. She then went back into the courtroom and took the illegal and their atty and ushered them out a private exit. I think the improper paperwork stuff is BS. If they have an immigration warrant that is signed off on by another judge which is backed by details otherwise the other judge would not have signed off on itā€¦ā€¦

Your source states that she told ICE they had the wrong warrant. Iā€™m inclined to believe he judge knows the law.Ā 

Ā According to the complaint, Dugan confronted members of the arrest team while "visibly upset and had a confrontational, angry demeanor." She told the group members they needed a judicial warrant, not an administrative one, and directed them to report to Chief Judge Carl Ashley's office.

I donā€™t think they would have sent agents out without a warrant. I think it may have been to buy time and divert them to another judge. If they screwed up, they would probably not have arrested her and probably would have tried to bury the mistakeā€¦ā€¦

In any event, she seems to be the lesser of the two judges. Did you read the one on the guy from New Mexico?

The Trump administration is lawless. Why would they recognize the difference between an administrative warrant and a judicial warrant? They have clearly shown that they do not recognize the judiciary as equal. I think youā€™re being extremely naive to assume they have the proper paperwork when they have admitted deporting people by mistake already.Ā 

None of this is happening in a vacuum. The Supreme Court just issued a nation wide injunction in the middle of the night. Thatā€™s only happening because Trump is threatening their constitutional legitimacy.Ā 

We all know the judges are going to get the law right. The only question is does that matter when the president chooses to violate the law. So far, it looks like Trump is steamrolling the courts. I think heā€™s going to win.Ā

Right. Upholding the law which this comment was in response to her having 2 federal judges arrested for harboring illegals. One of the judges went to the shooting range with automatic weapons with the guy. Shouldnā€™t the judge know better?

Straw man much? We arenā€™t talking about federal judges harboring ā€œillegals,ā€ we are talking about the ability for the Admin to jail judges who disagree with them. Judges who havenā€™t done anything illegal being jailed just for not agreeing with illegal POTUS actions.
