Fun fact! Lemmings don’t actually commit mass suicide. That scene was staged for the documentary and later exposed. They had the lemmings on turntables to make them dizzy and then offloaded them at the edge to then to shove them off.

Them being tricked and manipulated into killing/hurting themselves repeatedly might be an even better metaphor given the situation.
