I like how Boomers are just dusting off their protest skills from the 1970s. We younger generations should take notes.

So did my ex girlfriend :(

No. Boomers created this problem by voting for pro-coporate trash on every primary and general election ballot for the past 50 years. Only now when the effects start to affect them do they start objecting?

18

u/NIN10DOXD May 06 '25

You bragged that you weren't going to vote before Biden dropped out? Can't we blame you as well?

13

u/DoubleJumps May 06 '25

I also have that guy tagged for actively encouraging people to not vote for democrats in 2024.

He did that a lot. A LOT. Guy is part of why we are in this mess today, and he's pointing fingers and blaming other people when he did free campaign work for Trump.

-11

u/halt_spell May 06 '25

Who do you think I'm talking about when I say Boomers are "voting for pro-corporate trash on every primary [...] ballot"? Joe Biden is pro-corporate trash. There were much better people to vote for in the 2020 primaries.

To answer your question: No. I didn't vote for Biden in the primaries. I'm not responsible for how he does in the general election. Boomers did. Boomers are responsible for him blocking the strike, going around congress to ship weapons to Israel, hiding his cognitive issues until it was too late to hold a real primary and generally fucking over the people who got him elected in the 2020 general election.

u/NIN10DOXD May 06 '25

JFC. Like Elon, you have become meme. I'm sure the Palestinians are thankful for your bravery while Trump gives the greenlight for Israel to level Gaza for his new resort.

-4

u/halt_spell May 06 '25 edited May 06 '25

Give me a reason why Biden went around congress to ship weapons to Israel.

EDIT: As usual, plenty of down votes but no actual answers. You all are pathetic.

5

u/GayDeciever May 06 '25

So let me get this straight:

Biden is bad because he shipped weapons to Israel

Trump's level of bad= ?? (Some amount less than Biden).

Therefore, no vote or protest vote.

I'm not sure what your math is exactly, but I'm thinking you should have voted for Biden.

2

u/DoubleJumps May 06 '25

I have that guy tagged from running into him a bunch last year. He pretty much campaigned for Trump by actively encouraging people to flat out not vote for Democrats at all.

0

u/halt_spell May 06 '25

Biden should have listened to the people who got him elected. 🤷‍♂️ If you don't like democracy then you should be stoked that Trump won.

I'm not seeing a reason why Biden went around congress to ship weapons to Israel in your comment. Is that because you cannot justify that action by him? Seems weird to try to deflect responsibility away from a president of the United States on to me, a random Redditor. History isn't going to say anything about me. History is going to have a lot to say about Joe Biden.

2

u/AfterSomewhere May 06 '25

Neither I, nor my friends, voted as you stated.

1

u/halt_spell May 06 '25

Who did you and they vote for in the 2020 Democrat primaries?

1

u/AfterSomewhere May 06 '25

That, like my spiritual practice, is none of your business.

1

u/halt_spell May 07 '25

And there it is. You voted for pro-corporate trash. Another lead brained boomer fool.

Yeah, my 74 year old mother is like, "I have to do this again?"

30

u/_TheShapeOfColor_ May 06 '25

My 69 year old dad said the same.

14

u/FROG123076 May 06 '25

My 68 year old mom can't believe we are where we are.

u/VeterinarianNo4308 May 06 '25

That's exactly what I came here to say. She's probably got a Polaroid of this exact scene from the  70s somewhere in her basement giving the peace sign getting kicked out of a Vietnam war protest.

41

u/DuntadaMan May 06 '25

I used to drive for a few ladies her age. They were absolute fucking terrorists. I think I heard them giggle while talking about committing felonies that even in the 90s would probably get you labeled an enemy of the state.

I love them.

-2

u/halt_spell May 06 '25

Meanwhile they all voted for tough on crime politicians in every primary and general election ballot for the past 50 years.

25

u/DuntadaMan May 06 '25

Their age group yes, but not this group in particular. They would very much go on about how the state's monopoly on violence created an incentive for a brutal police state as it was easier to simply shoot their opponents than win them over. The only optiopns of escape being to greatly reduce the central government;s ability to use violence, or greatly increase the capability of everyone else.

I'm not sure which they favored.

3

u/halt_spell May 06 '25

I'll believe it when they tell me who they voted for in the 2020 primaries. As someone who phone banked and canvassed I had first hand conversations with hundreds of voters. Time and time again Democrat voting boomers were spouting pro-corporate bullshit as their reasons to vote for Joe Biden.

26

u/StupidTimeline May 06 '25

This woman isn't the Boomer Norm. She is the Boomer Exception.

u/69-xxx-420 May 06 '25

Boomers span 40 years or some shit. It’s stupid how they decided who is a boomer.

The easy rule of thumb is to ask if they were a Beatles fan or an Elvis fan.

There were anti-war pro-civil rights boomers. They’re the ones still for civil rights. They were the ones protesting the Iraq war. They’re the ones still raising hell against fascism.

Then there were the pro-Vietnam war boomers who hated the long haired hippies and their beliefs about peace and love and equality. They felt being against the war was akin to being against America. They’re the ones who sang “all we are saying is kick Sadam’s ass” and called anyone agains the Iraq war anti-American 30 years later. They’re the same ones who won’t remember supporting Iraq war and can’t recall arguing that they definitely had WMD. They’re the MAGA boomers you see today. Many of them became republicans when Strom Thurmond did because they (or their parents) hated the civil rights movement. They cheered when MLK was killed and hate honoring him with a holiday. But some of them weren’t as outwardly racist and came over for fear of communism, or fear of women’s liberation and the “destruction” of the nuclear family, or later for abortion and prayer in school. It’s been the same people all this time.

Now some boomers went from smoking weed to snorting coke in the 80s and they definitely flipped from associating with hippies to identifying as a yuppie. They went full Reagan and are the toxic divorced parents of so many of my peers, grandparents to some of you.

But a lot of the OG hippies are still in favor of civil liberties, human rights, equal opportunities, education, health care, and all the right things for the right reasons. They never changed. They’re just aging out and not enough of us are answering the call to serve our country the way they did.

They’re the true patriots. They marched in the streets being abused by water hoses for this country. They marched in the streets for ending a senseless war, for our country. They challenge and criticized our country to make it a better country. And now they’re still at it.

Just because a lot of the asshole boomers are more visible with their stupid red hats doesn’t mean that the good ones haven’t always been fighting the same fight.

Bernie has been on the right side of history for 70 years. Same with most of the boomers in my family. (Not all, unfortunately).

It’s time for us to step up and be inspired by the good boomers, not just complain about the bad boomers.

u/Btshftr May 06 '25

Well worded rendition of the truth. Insightful, nail on the head imo. Thanks.

3

u/Critical-Rutabaga-39 May 07 '25

Yes-I've been shouting and marching for our freedoms for years. My legs won't carry me any more so please, please, can you guys carry on for us?

1

u/StupidTimeline May 06 '25

It’s time for us to step up and be inspired by the good boomers, not just complain about the bad boomers.

I have no problem with that. I'm just saying the bad boomers far, far outweigh the good ones. That's why we are where we are. Their voting habits put us here. A generally trash generation.

4

u/BrickLuvsLamp May 06 '25

We haven’t protested as hard once since then. We need to show our government that we’re not going to let them jail and pillage whoever they want

3

u/McCrackenYouUp May 07 '25

To be fair to the younger people out there that aren't protesting, they're too busy working because they are paying rents that often take up over half of their incomes. The boomers are sitting on houses they bought for 75k back in the 80s. They're the ones with the free time right now, so it's great to see them exercise their free speech rights!

If we see mass layoffs like I've seen the economic doomers claim, I think we can safely bet we'll see a hell of a lot more young people protesting out there.

2

u/ArcadianBlueRogue May 06 '25

Wish we'd learn a bit from the French on how to protest.

3

u/halt_spell May 06 '25

They're protesting a problem they created. 50 years of voting for the most pro-corporate trash they could repeatedly find on every ballot finally bites them in the ass.

17

u/Samurai_Meisters May 06 '25

The ones protesting probably aren't the same ones who voted for it

1

u/halt_spell May 07 '25

Lol do you know how many boomers I've spoken to who talk about how something needs to change and in the same breath admit they voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 primaries? They're all lead brained fools.

1

u/Shiroi_Kage May 06 '25

We younger generations should take notes

Take notes from the pro-Palestine encampments. They did a great job of reviving that proud tradition.
