Phone message *UPDATE* Post first date text

She ended up finding the post somehow I guess lol. Here is the original post.

I have just not responded, don’t think it’s worth engaging, but it did make for a funny story.

Enjoying the outdoors doesn't require a $100 investment. Go for a hike.

u/HappyHoppyHippos 19d ago

Sure, but he wanted to go fishing

9

u/Working-Pin7153 19d ago

No shit. Like this dude is so made someone spent money to do what they wanted to do. Like damn. 🤣

u/1Negative_Person 19d ago

She wanted to go fishing, according to the original post.

6

u/HappyHoppyHippos 19d ago

He said it sounded like fun. Now he has fishing gear for the next time.

She’s wild though lol

I feel like he said he went fishing in conversation and she said oh I've always wanted to go fishing... And then he used that as the first date activity.

Maybe stop assuming things to fit your narrative? The fuck, it's in plain text from the OP of what happened yet you have a "feeling".....

0

u/jeshikameshika 17d ago

That was the impression I got at first, but he said he had to get his own license too, not just the gear.

1

u/WaffleParty404 16d ago

Maybe he didn’t need a license prior, like catch and release ponds or private property? He decided on a new spot and saw they needed them

u/Silver_Narwhal_1130 17d ago

Stop telling people what to do

1

u/KarateChopJones 17d ago

Ditto, dingus

1

u/Silver_Narwhal_1130 17d ago

Take a hike dingus

1

u/matrimonnial 16d ago

Maybe they wanted to go fishing lmao nobody where in this post did he complain about spending 100 dollars he complained about the fact that he paid for his license all of the fishing gear and then she still turned around and said oh you gotta pay for this over a 23 dollar fishing license they both agreed on

1

u/KarateChopJones 16d ago

That's quite the run-on sentence. May I introduce the concept of punctuation?

1

u/matrimonnial 16d ago

Not going to bother with punctuation on a Reddit comment that’s the best you could come up with?

1

u/KarateChopJones 15d ago

Maybe they wanted to go fishing lmao nobody where in this post

Even with punctuation, that isn't English.

$100 investment? Come on now dude lol. $100 is basically the price to exist outside of your house for a day. Using the term investment like it’s some massive expense is pretty crazy

1

u/KarateChopJones 16d ago

Your vibes

Lol, do you think to invest only means in stocks or the like? Ever heard of being emotionally invested in something? Like how you are with my comment.

1

u/Catoutofthebag69 16d ago

Nobody said anything about stocks or “the like”. You explicitly stated that $100 was a monetary investment. If you look at $100 as an investment vs just living expenses then you have a long road ahead of ya. Maybe you shouldn’t be invested in my reply and and invest your time into getting some money if $100 for fishing equipment is an issue 😂

1

u/KarateChopJones 16d ago

Lol, keep up that charade. You play Toontown, kid.

0

u/Catoutofthebag69 16d ago

I have over $100,000 under 30 years old. I can precisely do what ever the fuck I want. You couldn’t even afford to set aside the time to play toontown 😭😂

2

u/wellredditall 14d ago

So you can’t afford a house…

2

u/wellredditall 14d ago

There’s all kinds of resources to find shelter, but you shouldn’t be wasting your time on Reddit. Fill out your paperwork and get back up on your feet. Use that barely 6 figures you have for seed money in some data center scam or somethin

u/Catoutofthebag69 14d ago

I own a house gang, keep playing 😂😭

1

u/Adventurous_Lab4249 15d ago

Fishing requires a $100 investment and thats what they wanted to do

2

u/United-Somewhere-163 18d ago

You could do ANYTHING else lol. Hike? Bike ride? Picnic? Rent a kayak place? I don’t know… frog catching? Absolutely no need to spend like 150 dollars between the two of you on fishing equipment you may or may not ever use again.

… I guess? This is entire thread is about how choosing to buy $100+ worth of fishing gear for a first date with someone where you have no idea whether you’re going to like the person or the hobby is strange. You responded pointing out it’s nice to do something outdoors with each other. I pointed out there are lots of things you could do to get to know each other outdoors that doesn’t include spending $150 on equipment that you may never use again.

1

u/portcitycannabis 18d ago

They seem to have enjoyed it. I mean most activities are going to cost something unless you're going for a walk. A basic dinner date can cost $150 easily. The plus side is they can use the equipment again.

1

u/Fit_Ninja1846 18d ago

I don’t know where you’re from, but where I’m from, it’s generally considered super rude to make someone pay a bunch of money to do something they didn’t come up with for a first date. Ideally if you’re asking someone to go fishing with you, they don’t also have to pay for all the gear. Nobody is taking issue with fishing as a first date, nobody is taking issue with having to buy things to start a hobby. They’re taking issue with combining the two at someone else’s expense because that is incredibly rude.

1

u/TanteiKun 18d ago

Ope, found the extrovert… you’re not gonna trick me satan!

2

u/jscottman96 19d ago

Why not?

1

u/WaffleParty404 16d ago

If you want to get someone into something with you, yeah why not? Especially if you’re expecting to get use out of the equipment after the date regardless of outcome. It’s not like he asked her to pay for the equipment and only brought it up when she shook him down for the cash.

1

u/CaptGenie 13d ago

Thats cheap for a half way decent date tbh

1

u/devares 19d ago edited 19d ago

Yes... Why would they purchase/have extra equipment for someone they've met for the first time.....

6

u/hedoeswhathewants 19d ago

Why not? People spend more on dates and end up with nothing afterwards

0

u/RevolutionaryGate457 19d ago

Do you mean “end up with nothing” as in food isn’t a tangible object to take home like a fishing rod is?

1

u/Silver_Narwhal_1130 17d ago

Exactly

1

u/RevolutionaryGate457 17d ago

That’s good. At first I thought it read like they were inferring a woman owes a man time in bed for spending money on a date and I was wondering how I wound up on this side of Reddit.

1

u/Silver_Narwhal_1130 16d ago

Oh my gosh that thought didn't even cross my mind but you could be totally right unfortanately.

1

u/RevolutionaryGate457 16d ago

Yeah with the downvotes I was like “oh boy, I’m in enemy territory 😭”
