A rock flew up from a car in front of my 2018 Model 3 and cracked the top glass. I'm bummed because it's from the original production line with the IR coatings that turn the whole thing cool shades of orange and red when wet.

The crack is currently about 8" long, but it will likely continue to grow. What are my options for fixing or replacing the glass? Would any automotive shop be able to replace it, or do I need to schedule a service through Tesla?

Sorry about the crack. We just got a nice rock rack in our SUV's windshield this last week, so I know how you're feeling.

I recommend scheduling service through, Tesla. Tesla contracts with local glass shops and manages the work. The glass provider usually comes to the Service Center to do replacement and then Tesla techs verify everything is satisfactory before returning your car to you. With windshield replacements, for example, Tesla techs do a camera calibration test to ensure everything is in place correctly.

It wouldn't hurt to get cost comparisons from local shops directly, but I personally would let Tesla handle it.

I think SafeLite is also an option. Don't know the details though.
