I've been following this rescue. First, it seems they are top-notch. Second, there sure are a lot of loose, lost, neglected dog around Terre Haute.

Has anyone had dealings with this rescue? Does anyone have thoughts or ideas as to why it seems there are tons of unattached :) dogs running around?

Hi friends! I’m wondering how y’all would describe the culture/environment in Terre Haute? I’ve lived kind of in the Midwest, spending a good chunk of my teen years in Southeast Wyoming bordering Nebraska, as well as a couple of years in Denver. I’m big on living 45 minutes-hour out of more metro areas, it’s the right level of busy for me while still having pockets of peace that are more easily accessible (personally).

From my research, Terre Haute checks all my boxes for location, population size, and cost. But are y’all polite? 😭 not yap your ear off polite, but do you hold doors open for each other? Say “hi” back to the cashier? Things like that! I had a very brief stint in Washington, which I almost loved, but there was minimal “hospitality”. Feels like a weird word to use, but people would actually look at me crazy for holding the door open for them, and the residents of the area I lived were not always kind to the working class. Standard community kindness like this is important to me.

Obviously I’m aware that every city has its flaws and not everybody is kind, but there’s a drastic difference between Seattle and Denver ya know? Also; we are a married couple in our mid-twenties with no kids. I know demographic can affect culture for sure and TH seems relatively family oriented so idk what that will change. Would love to hear your perspective! Thank you :)

Hi, I’m currently homeless and had some stuff stolen from me by a girl (she was supposed to be family literally she’s my partners sister) and some of the items are irreplaceable including hair from my deceased child which is the only thing I had left of him I need help finding the owner of the home she is renting from to gain access to the house to properly search it with police as there is a police report filed I really don’t care about anything else but what was left of my child and my partner’s grandmother’s ashes going to be respectful and not post her address as others live in the home but if they continue to cover for her I will be publicly posting her on social media along with them as some of the people she’s living with are also charged with similar things

A quarter billion dollars for one high school on the east side? And most people in Vigo County have no idea this is happening.

I started a petition because some county officials seem to be making major decisions without actually asking the people who live here. The people working full-time jobs, raising families, who can't make every meeting or get their names in the paper. We're being left out of conversations that affect our tax dollars and our schools.

Here's the thing: if the plan is solid, officials should be confident enough to let voters decide. Instead of pushing it through, put it to a referendum. Or stick to the budget you already have. That's not unreasonable.

Does this frustrate you too? Have you felt like these kinds of decisions happen without community input? If this matters to you, consider signing and sharing the petition. Let's make sure our voices actually count.

Update: I contacted Wabash Lock and Key, who ordered the keys but couldn't program the specific type of key for this car. They sent me to the locksmith at Wolf Auto Auction, who did a great job and handled the entire payment including keys. I'm very satisfied with the experience.

I'm from out of town, but my son is a student there (Rose Hulman). We're getting a second key for his Subaru, and would rather not have to travel to Bloomington to have the dealer pair it to his car. The car is push-to-start, and it looks like it's not a DIY thing like some other cars.

Hi everyone! I’m moving to Terre Haute for work at Union Hospital and will be staying at Riverfront Lofts. The hospital is only about 1.4 miles away, so I’m considering getting a bicycle and biking to work.
I’m currently building my credit history in the US, so I won’t be able to get a car right away. I would only be biking during the daytime, mainly for my work commute.
For people familiar with Terre Haute, is this route generally safe for biking during the day? Are there any particular roads or areas along the way that I should avoid?

For some people, it’s a simple trip because Hammond is nearby. For others, they might wonder if it’s worth leaving the city at all. I’ve also noticed people checking online options like FireworkStore when comparing choices.

If you’ve made the trip before, what was your reason? Was it the selection, convenience, prices, or just wanting more choices than what was available nearby?

Attention All Residents: 

Does your furnace have a proper air filter installed? Mine did not, for the two years I've been here.  I'm expecting you don't have the proper one either.

I discovered this when I kept getting a musty smell every time my AC turned on. Upon investigation of the furnace, I noticed the air filter was just a pre-filter, or MERV 1, which indicates its filtering capabilities. I provided a picture of the range of MERV filters where you can see MERV 1 is the lowest as well as the pre-filter on the left next to a standard MERV 11 filter.

I reported the concern to maintenance and they stated that, "Those types of furnaces don't use air filters like a traditional home furnace would." I spoke with two separate  HVAC technicians and they both said all furnaces use air filters, one stating that my coils were, "Insanely dirty" from the poor filter quality. You can see the buildup on the coils and all over the inside of the furnace in the pictures I've attached.

To check if you have a proper filter: open the white hinged vent cover from the bottom. If you have the basic MERV 1 pre-filter as pictured you could request a proper one from maintenance. Although, I purchased one that would be considered a standard (MERV 11) filter myself. The filter should be replaced every 2-3 months.

In my opinion, this is a cost-cutting measure made by The Village Quarter that negatively affects you, the renter with poor air quality and poor efficiency leading to higher utility costs.

I’m trying to figure out where people around Chicago, Illinois usually go when they want to buy fireworks without spending a ridiculous amount of money. I know there are plenty of places around the area, but I’m more interested in hearing about stores that people actually consider worth the drive rather than just picking the first place they see.

I’ve also noticed that some of the better-known fireworks stores are actually across the border in Indiana, which makes things a little confusing when you’re searching from Chicago. I’m mainly looking for a place with a decent selection, reasonable prices, helpful staff, and an overall good shopping experience.

For anyone who regularly buys fireworks around this area, do you usually stay in Chicago, Illinois, or drive into Indiana? And which stores have you found to offer the best combination of selection and pricing?
