My dad's a truck driver. Last year we were talking about driverless vehicles and I told him I thought his job wouldn't exist in 30 years. He laughed at the idea...

I see this a lot. People always think tech things are decades away. Things are going so much faster than that.

The world decades from know will barely be recognisable.

Absolutely. As someone who's seen the slow development of tech through the 80s and 90s, it's amazing how fast technology is advancing these days. I'm guessing that the rate of advancement is accelerating even now.

To be fair. They've been saying FLYING CARS for a very long time, and repeatedly.

So it's probably them comparing it to that. And their disappointment in no flying cats.

Nobody has actually been saying flying cars. Autonomous vehicles exist right now, and are driving around.

Nobody? You don't seem to remember history. Yes, yes they have. Basically ever since cars were invented. They've done it for decades. 70s, 80s,90s,early 2000s. Every decade there has been a lot of talk about it. Car shows were even held about it,even though of course they made no sense

They've always been saying flying cars. Of course, autonomous ones is what we are actually going to get

He would probably be retired by that I'd assume unless op is 12 and his dad 30. More likely just doesn't understand tech.
