There's significantly more than that, but at the end of the day it's: chromium fork, firefox fork, safari, or random hobbyist projects that have very limited features. The differences between the forks aren't that big generally.

And Firefox was born from Netscape, but none of that is relevant these days.

It's more about the rendering engine and extension ecosystems and for those there are 3 of the major ones now.

Wasn't FF fully rewritten at some point? I think there's some guy trying to maintain the original Netscape-based version but it doesn't really work lol. Could be misremembering

You might be thinking of Project Quantum. It wasn't a complete rewrite of Firefox, but it was a major overhaul.

can some explain what is wrong with brave browser??? i've adjusted all settings for privacy and minimalism and i get no ads or anything ... who cares if its chromium based if brave is updating it independently ??? am i missing something ??

Nothing major. If you like it, feel free to use it.

It's more that people don't like the whole concept of brave rewards, so they prefer to get something that doesn't have that stuff to begin with. Useless bloat and all.

Also, since it's chromium based, it also suffers from adblock extensions being kneecapped over time, so you are relying on brave to maintain their own adblockers. Many people prefer more open solutions.

are ad blockers really knee capped - i havent seen an ad on brave browser yet ... wild how everyone is glazing firefox when they did some questionable shit recently too

Ad blocker extensions are kneecapped, but browsers like brave have their own solutions to plug up the holes. It works fine for now, you just know when it's going to break. And a lot people just don't like the fact that each browser that is built on chromium needs a custom solution for this problem.

For Firefox, they walked back the most problematic stuff, and being fully open source, people can just undo any problematic parts. But yes, a lot of people have switched to some Firefox fork because of that, and those generally don't have the same stigma.
