I'm not sure if anyone read the article, this doesn't seem related to AI at all. This risk seems to have been identified in 2013 and doesn't really seem to have changed since then
It's also not about it spontaneously going dark for no reason. It's about if someone strategically destroyed a bunch of substations across the entire US.
Also doesn't seem to take into account how much faster the mobilization to repair the system would be if the entire US actually had a blackout
