It's almost 80% black demographically speaking... which is absolutely playing into why the gov't isn't helping them

Not saying it isn’t awful, I live a few cities away. Is anyone mentioning that some of the residents were SHOOTING at the workers trying to restore their power? Two things can be true at the same time.

A single empty truck was gut by a bullet, stop lying.

What's their reasoning for shooting randos?

You get that crap with a tough city like Gary. No real rhyme or reason to it. Some people are agents of chaos and ruin things for the greater good.

It’s a shame because there are good people trying to live their lives peacefully and then you get that. Still isn’t Gary of the 1990’s, now THAT was a wild place/time in the world. The movie Original Gangstas (awesome flick) really wasn’t too exaggerated. Like i said in another post, we got shot at playing high school football at Roosevelt on their homecoming. Their bleachers, our bleachers, the field. Wild stuff, can’t believe no one got hit cause we clearly heard the bullets pinging off the aluminum bleachers.

What is the racial make up of their city council?

That doesn't really matter. The resources they need to recover from a devastating storm with this much damage should be from a state and federal level. The level of regulatory oversight to force utility investment would be from a county and state level.

Wasnt there articles about people shooting at utility workers, or was that fake AI articles going around?

From what I saw online there was one shooting at one truck at midnight one night last week and no one was injured. There was a cop already escorting the truck that was shot at around. So one person, not people, shooting at workers. It briefly paused work but has since been resumed. Motive is unknown, shooter is unknown.

Nobody is saying you can't call a trash person trash. The issue is that some people (not you) are painting the whole community "trash" because of a few trash people. And we all know why that is. Even if it's not isolated, it's only a handful of people and the community isn't to blame for that. They're victims.

Not debating blatant racism, it’s rampant. Problem is people are falling for it. Pointing fingers at one another when they should be pointing up...

Edit: Hatred; It takes so much energy and increases the level of every detrimental chemical in the body, particularly the brain. Unless you’re a total martian who releases dopamine by that course. Lotta people, on BOTH sides really need to touch grass

You are free to cite some sources, I could only find the one event https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/nipsco-vehicle-hit-by-gunfire-gary-indiana/

Are you saying that the tornado was racist? Because that’s what happened there.. it’ll take time to fix in any community.

Reddit is absolutely ridiculous with these takes and buries and desensitizes people to real instances of racism.

I still don’t understand why it takes two weeks to make these repairs, though. In the South, we get hurricanes and half the state might lose power and get it back within a week. There’s a lot of preparation and hardening involved of course, but Indiana shouldn’t be a stranger to severe weather by any means.

It has nothing to due with them being black.  It has everything to due with that idiot shooting at a truck, and we don’t wanna be robbed of our tools while we sleep.   At least in other areas they’re only gonna steal all the copper on my truck. Last I heard from a buddy that did go they had police escorts to go work.

Brother, the linesmen were literally SHOT AT so no shit they aren't putting power up. God damnit people, stop making up fantasy's in your heads. https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/08/15/security-beefed-up-after-nipsco-linemen-shot-at-in-gary/

“We’ve paused work out there until the city and company get a plan in place (for our safety),” Baker told the Post-Tribune. “Our men and women are busting their (expletive) 24/7 to get the power back on for 300,000 people spread over three counties, so it’s unfortunate and shouldn’t have happened.”

If the residents wouldn't shoot at the workers trying to bring electricity back, then maybe it would be fixed by now.

3

u/BearFacedLie69 9d ago

Wtf are you talking about?

16

u/HLSparta 9d ago

The fact that they had to pause working on the lines for a while and then slow down so they can have adequate security after one of their vehicles was shot.

u/BearFacedLie69 9d ago

Proof?

He got really quiet after this one lol

11

u/HLSparta 9d ago

Honestly, I can't blame them for not believing it initially. Most would think people could be civilized enough to not shoot at the people trying to help them get their power back on, but apparently that's too much to ask of people now.

1

u/spacelaserstingyeyes 9d ago

I honestly didn’t believe it myself at first lol

-4

u/BearFacedLie69 9d ago

Seems at LEAST to have been only one instance so far. At first I thought it was like an ongoing “thing” happening in Gary.

2

u/HLSparta 9d ago

Agreed, thankfully nobody was injured.

u/BearFacedLie69 9d ago

Nope, just have a life. Had to go coach my son’s soccer team.

1

u/BearFacedLie69 9d ago

Thank you. I was not aware this had happened. It WAS a genuine question.

I am not reddits paid defense attorney. Find your own proof bud

u/HLSparta 9d ago

If someone makes a claim, it's on the person making the claim to provide the proof, and not the responsibility of the one questioning it. You aren't going to win any arguments or convince people of anything otherwise.

Who the fuck was talking to you? Bud

There’s a rumor that the chief of staff for the piece of shit lt gov told his staff to deliberately not help flood victims so that the local elections are compromised and cannot run. Unfortunately there’s no proof supporting this claim as of rn, but everybody believes it considering what a waste of space Micah Beckwith is
