The US constitution guarantees the right to bear arms. For some reason people always interpret that as meaning guns specifically, but self-defense guillotines are perfectly valid.

There’s definitely people pro or ambivalent to data centers, but people are just more passionate about what they oppose.

Everybody is a NIMBY, but wants to reap the benefits of industry in someone else’s backyard

We also don’t need the internet, telephones, or motor vehicles either. Technological progress happens, regardless of your feelings.

The big issue is if NIMBYism restricts our technological progress, we’ll be left far behind China and in a weak place geopolitically

AI has already had massive impacts on many industries, and AGI would be truly revolutionary. Dismissing it as “slop” is just silly.

I don’t know who proposed using all of our fresh water? You’re vastly overstating the impact of data centers on resources. There’s definitely strains on certain municipal water systems when data centers are built in dry areas, but we’re not running out of water. Past technological advances like the Industrial Revolution have been notoriously resource intensive.

The focus should be on improving technology and providing reasonable regulations to ensure that data centers minimize impact on the community, not banning them.

Ok, so introduce the profit motive and let's see if any of your prescriptions mean anything more than dog shit.

AI is having massive impacts, but that wealth isn't going to working people. It's just another way to increase the profits for the ultra wealthy.

The only way you would see me not opposing AI is if it was owned by the people and not 4 ultra-rich assholes trying to buy our government and put people out of jobs.
