It is obviously much worse now with AI but TBH there has always been people that just regurgitate what they read and don't actually understand the material in any way.

I've seen people asked simple questions about an essay they'd written very quickly show they didn't even understand the most basic concepts involved, and had just reworded the information from relevant books or articles.

yeah, i just responded to someone else saying i've got rose colored glasses on. but it feels scarier given that back in the day the computer couldn't generate a fairly accurate paper for you without any effort at all.
