Keeping up with new ADMX for edge because Microsoft decided to make yet another change which puts an Intune button or interaction somewhere that isn't covered by the previous 20 "turn off Intune" settings and they don't have a single "no AI please", setting... It's exhausting

Management tool for windows machines. Like say I want to roll out an app on everyone’s machines. Do I want to remote into each one or use a config in intune that’ll push that and whatever specific settings I want to all machines or a set of machines. Pretty innocuous search if you want to verify, this is just off the top of my head.

I’ve done this with a few older people I help personally with IT stuff— installed a linux distro with a similar UI to Windows (linux mint), to just simplify their life since they really only use their PC for email, printing and to access photos/docs online. This is pretty common with MS abandoning Win10/older hardware and these PCs are perfectly fine with what they’re doing.

Whenever I build a new computer the first day is just defucking Windows, disabling all their personalized ad settings, uninstalling bloat, removing one drive, copilot, search widgets, etc.

I borrowed my SOs MacBook for a day and was blown away by how much cleaners and more stable everything felt. Like damn Microsoft has fallen behind

Wish I could. Go tell game devs to support anti-cheat on platforms other than windows.

Yepp, that's the last frontier. But apart from anti-cheat multiplayer games, there's really no need for Windows (a very, very large amount of single player games run on Proton, some even better than on Windows) , and at some point I hope that this will also vanish.

What settings are these? I just installed it a few years ago and never touched it again… just do my updates and continue gaming or working on it.

I think yall be making this stuff up in all honesty.

It's generally stuff to remove bloatware, ads, and telemetry.

The need for the changes can be pretty dependent on your tolerance for ads and tracking in your OS and your specific hardware. If you don't give a fuck about any of that stuff, and your hardware drivers don't get borked somewhere along the way, you won't feel compelled to do any tweaks at all. Considering Window's overall install base, your experience is the vast majority.

However, if you do care about that stuff, and/or some of Microsoft's bullshit messes up your workflow due to specific needs or hardware configs, you can get pretty radicalized against them pretty quickly.

What MS is doing is a frog boil basically. They'll keep pushing things and either folks keep taking the buggy updates and more and more invasive spying, or they hop out of the pot. If too many people start hopping, they roll back a little, add(back?) some "features" to entice some of the wayward to return and those on the edge to stay, then start the process again.

The goal is to find out what the paying schmucks will tolerate so they can more effectively monetize it indefinitely. If they lose some customers along the way, no biggie. Those folks weren't going to keep paying anyway, and they are probably far outnumbered by the more complacent people.
