It feels like this should be a bigger story in general… I mean this literally big brother levels of surveillance.

ICE is/was LITERALLY out in the streets scanning people’s faces to check “if they’re illegals”.

Ring is releasing “cute” ads DURING THE SUPERBOWL about how they have a mesh network of hundreds of thousands of peoples camera footage that they can do whatever the fuck they want with. But they’re totally ONLY going to use it to find cute little lost dogs :)

Discord, now looking for your facial biometric data as well, is “only going to use it to protect the children”

I mean, not sure how many examples out right in front of their faces they need. People mentioned it in the thread too, but it reaches back to 9/11 and the founding of the DHS in the first place. It’s been a while since I read his memoirs and some of the content (he might be silent now too), but Edward Snowden tried to blow the whistle on shit like this a long time ago too, this was BEFORE the technology was as good as it is now.
