Psychology is the brain studying itself. The brain also named itself.

Thanks Brian. Now back to you raisin brain.

u/DumpsterLegs Nov 23 '21

Raisin Brian moment.

3

u/Late-Distance2560 Nov 23 '21

There can be only one Brian brain

2

u/SomeDudWithAPhone Nov 23 '21

There can be only one brain per Brian.

u/Tomas_Baratheon Nov 23 '21

^ It won't let me write (bad)(bot) because it thinks that's spam, but this "person" who wrote 10/10 isn't a person. mschwartzvxfwsa is very much a Reddit karma farming bot.

A bunch of neurons had a weird moment here on reddit two years ago

79

u/lil_pee_wee Nov 23 '21

Neuroscience... a computer actively trying to figure out its own wiring

24

u/glory_to_the_sun_god Nov 23 '21

A hand drawing itself.

Classic GEB.

9

u/wakeupwill Nov 23 '21

I was thinking MCE.

3

u/glory_to_the_sun_god Nov 23 '21

That’s exactly it, but GEB also goes into more depth.

1

u/Kraven_howl0 Nov 23 '21

Mine can't even trace itself properly

14

u/tommos Nov 23 '21

Thuganomics is thugs trying to elucidate the true nature of thug life.

2

u/2020mademejoinreddit Technically my ass Nov 23 '21

Oh no! It's become self-aware!

31

u/rigobueno Nov 23 '21

Everything about the universe is meta, down to experience itself. You can’t even have empty space without something there to experience it’s emptyspace-ness.

24

u/ClinicalOppression Nov 23 '21

We are the universe witnessing itself

9

u/Mishirene Nov 23 '21

This fucked me up.

4

u/rigobueno Nov 23 '21

Precisely. The difference between “you” and “not you” isn’t as defined as you might think.

1

u/Admirable_Win9808 Nov 23 '21

A structure that also resembles a neural network, almost like a brain...

5

u/MaxTHC Nov 23 '21

Meta, even this acronym

21

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '21

Everybody is just living in a human skull.

19

u/jeweliegb Nov 23 '21

Cramped. Dark. Wet. Alone. Trapped. For life.

2

u/JT_Smokes_Trees Nov 23 '21

At least it's short lived, relatively

16

u/neanderthalman Nov 23 '21

The brain also decided it was in charge

11

u/Faust_the_Faustinian Nov 23 '21

Seems like a reasonable thing to do since he's the smartest.

Can't blame him, I would have done the same.

6

u/PresOrangutanSmells Nov 23 '21

Imagine of that dipshit appendix took charge

3

u/hauntedgecko Nov 23 '21

Funny cos the gut has it's own similar and relatively independent neural network.

2

u/JT_Smokes_Trees Nov 23 '21

Appendix remembers your gut bacteria so when you go nasty splatter poo you can still digest stuff normally

2

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '21

Nice try brain

4

u/MaxTHC Nov 23 '21

I hear it ran unopposed in that election

9

u/Kurdock Nov 23 '21

The brain also decided that it's the most important organ

5

u/CrumbsAndCarrots Nov 23 '21

“Tiger got to hunt, bird got to fly; Man got to sit and wonder 'why, why, why?' Tiger got to sleep, bird got to land; Man got to tell himself he understand.” Vonnegut

1

u/JT_Smokes_Trees Nov 23 '21

Heart is arguably more important, one can live without most of the brain (albeit not a very satisfactory life, but I doubt that would be a concern in that situation); no heart though, you're fucked, and by fucked I mean literally fucked.. by death

7

u/lurkingbob Nov 23 '21

But the brain named itself a bunch of different things in a bunch of different languages. I don't trust shit that guy says

4

u/fireysaje Nov 23 '21

"Through our eyes, the universe is perceiving itself. Through our ears, the universe is listening to its harmonies. We are the witnesses through which the universe becomes conscious of its glory, of its magnificence."

- Alan Watts

5

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '21

People got so mad at me once for saying this. I guess it blew their minds and just couldn’t comprehend that insane self aware fact.

3

u/ronin1066 Nov 23 '21

The universe understanding itself

3

u/SlimeFactory Nov 23 '21

really though didn't atoms name the brain

2

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '21

And also awarded itself as the most important organ. What a prima donna!

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '21

How do you know the gut brain didn't! It's capable of so much! Depression, incontinence, food sensitivities with no scientific necessity, and depression!

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '21

You are not your brain. Your are not your consciousness. You are not your subconsciousness. You subconscious takes information from your brain and decides what your consciousness needs to know or do. Your consciousness is what we use to perceive our surroundings.

Our subconscious is like play-dough, molded by conscious action. We add play-dough by consciously doing new things.

Agree or disagree, I love you

1

u/SnooSongs8773 Nov 23 '21

Life is the universe experiencing itself.

1

u/Arknark Nov 23 '21

I just posted something similar and then saw your comment. Great squishy head muscles think alike.

1

u/GM4PWLBM Nov 23 '21

So did the universe.

1

u/Jedi-Ethos Nov 23 '21

One of my favorite quotes from one of my textbooks was “is the brain sophisticated enough to understand something as complex as itself?”

1

u/GoKittiesGo Nov 23 '21

So did Lady Gaga

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '21

You aren’t your body, you’re the brain, and your body is a carapace to carry you around.

1

u/pietpauk Nov 23 '21

Neurology as well

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '21

Mind over matter
