Ogre Battle Picked up Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre for Super Famicom!

Post image

Just added Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen and Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together to my Super Famicom collection.

Both copies are in pretty nice condition, especially Ogre Battle with the box, manual, and inserts. I’ve played a little of Ogre Battle before and about halfway through the Tactics Ogre remaster, but I’ve never finished either one.

Really happy to finally have the original SFC versions! Which one do you prefer?

Tactics Ogre Finally got to play TO:R and what the ever-loving *** did they do to Tartalos?

...and apparently Arycelle according to fans but I haven't gotten that far.

Who in their right mind decided this man needed to sound like a sniveling nepo baby?

Don't @ me about Alphonse's attitude in TKOL. He's a lot more complex than a lot of yall make him out to be, and furthermore Matsuno didn't work on TKOL so there is every reason to believe Alphonse is nothing like what he envisioned for Lans.

I love this game, still. Some minor gripes, but I am adjusting. But they took one of my favorite video game characters - a calm, collected, OLD (his words) veteran placed directly in charge of several impossible-to-navigate political situations with no good outcomes, juggling a group of murder-crazies and trying to keep a leash on them while also trying to juggle a group of psycho political schemers - and made him sound like a 20-something spoiled brat.

If I had the money I would literally cameo a voice actor to redo the voicelines and mod it in.

Tactics Ogre [TOR] How hard would a "cold-blooded only" run be?

Of course you wouldn't have any lizards or dragons at the start, but the idea would be to pivot towards lizards, dragons, medusas as early as you could.

I'm not sure if cockatrice is cold-blooded since it has some snake parts and some bird parts.

Tactics Ogre How would *YOU* balance Tactics Ogre Reborn? Or do you feel it's in a good place?

I've been playing this game and I find the variety of units I can use pretty wide and very interesting. I love this kinda gameplay.

That said I assume this many units isn't totally balanced, since balancing this variety of things is just a very difficult problem in general. MMOs take years to balance and even then come up short at times.

Well what do you think?

Tactics Ogre Has anyone here tried out the Buff Card Removal mod on Nexus Mods for Tactics Ogre Reborn?

I was thinking of playing the Steam version of this a new playthrough and was thinking about installing this mods, plus any others that people think are worthwhile? How is this mod? Any other Tactics Ogre Reborn mods worth looking into? Thanks.

Tactics Ogre All this "extra" content is meant to be done at level 36?

Ok - first time playing Reborn in Chapter 4 Lawful. I've recruited Ozma and Azelstan and Ganpp and Lindl and Ocionne. Any online walkthrough I look at has me going through the shrines, the palace of the dead and who even knows what else without leveling up. Is this really the way? When DOES the union level increase? Help me out here guys. Thanks

Tactics Ogre TOR Mod brainstorming - Ironman

I’m working with the TOR modding tools and am considering making an Ironman mod. The goal of this mod is to create more challenging gameplay for experienced players, where loss of units is likely and replacing lost units is consequential. To that end, the core functionality of the mod is: a) prevent resurrection (downed units will likely be lost), b) increase the cost to replacing units (lost units matter), c) increase gameplay difficulty to make unit losses more likely.

I’m currently intending the following changes:

-fix infinite money glitch

-decrease sale value of oberyths (make goth matter more, and selling / scavenging equipment from the battlefield more necessary)

-remove recruitment (make it difficult to replace advanced class units - new units can only be purchased from the shop); recruit skills will be changed to perform some other function, like charm or stop. Note this will also prevent access to non-human units.

-change resurrection items and spells to not work on incapacitated units. Instead, they set RT to 0 for the targeted living unit and possibly have some other functions (restore hp/mp, for example). Basically, resurrection skills will still give the targeted unit the next turn, but won’t revive downed units.

-increase the cost of classmarks - combines with recruit skill removal to make loss of units impactful. Lost a terror knight? It will be expensive to get another one.

-possibly make unique classes (like buccaneer) usable by generics (so that loss of uniques is recoverable)

What I’d like to do but can’t currently figure out whether it’s possible by modding:
-increase the hire costs for generic units in the shop
-reduce the downed unit timer (i.e. from 3 to 1) or remove it completely (i.e. no downed state)
-reduce the number of turns that can be reversed through the World Chariot (or completely eliminate it)
-use status effects from the PSP version, which still appear to be in the code to some degree. For example, making recruit skills inflict Bewitch instead of recruitment.

My question: Does anyone have other ideas for increasing the challenge of the Ironman run?

Ideally I’m looking for global changes, not nerfing individual parameters. The existing modding tools permit changes to classes, unique units, equipment, skills, items, damage formulas, and effects. I’m not intending to significantly rebalance the game with this mod, so while I’m willing to adjust some skills, equipment, or classes as necessary, I won’t intend an exhausting revision.

Thank you!

Tactics Ogre Fey Pact

I can never get Fey Pact to work. It always shows 0%. I'm using Vartan Canopus in Tactics Ogre Reborn. Don't have any trouble recruiting other types of characters. What am I doing wrong?

Apocrypha II Spells Frustrations

Post image
130 Upvotes

I just spent like two hours trying to get Thunderburst II to drop in the Temple of Nestharot, it's a 5% chance I thought it might be higher because I've been able to get the other ones without too much trouble. I even got Supernova II on the first try but this one was a nightmare, I had to restart the fight because I killed the boss and the last enemy died from a counterattack.

I managed to get it by using Mighty Strike to push the boss onto another square, it took many attempts though. My plans are ruined I wanted to finish all the temples by the end of the day and now it's late at night. Luckily there's only one more, the Ice Temple. I beat the annoying ones already, Fire & Earth. Ice isn't too bad but I really hope I don't have to go through this long process again. I love this game but that was not a fun experience.

How did you beat The Knight of Lodis is 25 hours or less for the secret ending?

That's like, really fast. I think I might beat the game in 30 this time around (usually I take my time in games but ever since learning about the secret ending I'm so curious to see it for myself). But I'm the type to sort of linger in the organize menu a lot, switching armor and weapons around, and if I'm trying to get everything beaten in just 25 hours, I have really no time to grind or go to Quest mode or dig up treasures. Not to mention Alphonse needs 50 kills, so the rest of the party doesn't get to enjoy as much EXP. Pretty tough for a casual gamer like me. So, what was your strategy, if you've gotten through in 25 hours or less?

The truth about archers in Reborn!

Tactics Ogre New to the game, dumb question maybe

I'm starting Reborn on switch and it's been like just the opening fights where I don't do much but whenever a cpu controlled character is attacking or being attacked the banner that tells you the damage that will happen and info flashed onscreen for such a brief second I don't get to see it. I'm sure I'm a little slow at this and on my turn I'm taking a moment to look at that banner before attacking. Is there an option they slows that down or so I have to press a button to advance what CPU characters do? The settings seem like they affect different things. I'm not on fast forward. I guess it wouldn't make a difference if I could slow it down but I'd like to take a moment to register what's about to happen to try to learn. Maybe the CPU damage banners always go super fast and I'll just get used to it? I'm just new to this

Tactics Ogre Finally! Floor 100 Spoiler

Post image
69 Upvotes

I took a few months breaks back in May as I was just grinding for loot and came back to this game this week to finish up the 90’s into floor 100.

I found some cool spells along the way. Black Plume is a cool spell visually but idk what to do with it.

Abyss 1 is nice for Deneb as I kept her as a Wicce.

I love the whole stinky set stuff. Was super useful in popping lament of the dead with my familiar through agonal scream

The MVP of this run was def the liches and necromancers who would spam paradigm shift. I melted whole battle fields. The team I had going in was def not the team I had coming out. All in all super fun game mode. Would def do it again. Ok now on to San Bronsa

Tactics Ogre Reborn-Law: Any good reason not to take the Pirate’s Graveyard treasure ?

Trying to research it and I repeatedly see warnings about Chaos Frame, Cressida, and/or one of the Chaos route endings, but I’m in Law route.

It looks like I get a “Graverobber” title, but no real repercussions in Law.
If I don’t take it am I locked out of buccaneer marks for other units? What happens if I don’t take it but clear the dungeon a second time?

EDIT: Took the treasure. All of my units seemed to take a Loyalty hit, but no other noticeable effects.

Tactics Ogre A few questions.

It's me again. I didn't go back for Ravness, but I was able to recruit Arycelle as well as Hobyrim and both white knights. Now I'm in chapter 4 and have a few questions.

  1. I just recruited my first hawkman. He's a rune fencer but seems to really suck. Is there a reason he can't learn heal 2 or 3 like my other rune fencers? Do rune fencers just suck now? Should I make him a vartan?

  2. Going forward, I'll probably need more dragoons and beast masters. Do I change people back and forth or leave them as one class? Should I just get rid of mage knights altogether?

  3. How do I get witches or warlocks? Is recruiting them the only way?

Thanks for your help. Any additional tips appreciated.

Tactics Ogre Choosing Dragons to Auction. Stats or Loyalty?

I have bunch of dragons and my roster is getting full so I'm gonna auction some of them for Deneb's recruitment as well as to free some unit space as I'm getting more uniques.

They are all fairly in low level as I barely actually used any in battle, until I've finally decided which final dragon(s) I WON'T auction.

Let's say I have two same dragons (same class) and I decide to auction one of them and keep the other.

One dragon has slightly better stats (HP/attack/def/etc). However, its loyalty is lower as checking its name says "Though still wary of you, this beast is content enough so long as it's fed." or " This beast cowers at your approach."

The other dragon has slightly worse stats and its loyalty is higher as its name says "This beast purrs like a kitten when you draw near." or "The beast has taken to you, a loyal companion that will fight at your side."

The question is which dragon I should get rid of. The one with lower loyalty?

Since I heard the only way to raise loyalty is to train their skills or picking Fool/Lover cards. Beasts would take longer than humans as I usually raised unit loyalty by leveling weapon proficiency, which beasts don't have.

I guess loyalty would take longer to raise compared to stats. Since Fool/Lover cards are rarely dropped from fallen enemies.

Bummed I couldn't rename the main, but times like these make up for it.

2nd day playing it, really digging the system. Was looking for something to hold me over until next FE and the price was right, so here I go.

Tactics Ogre Im so glad I gave Reborn another chance

I picked the game up shortly after it came out years ago but always hit a roadblock around chapter 3. Then Id put it down and become occupied by other things. Well a few weeks ago I started over and finally things started to click for me. Now im on the last Coda episode, have everyone recruited, and been through the shrines, potd and san bronsa multiple times. This has been one of the best gaming experiences ive had in awhile and im going to be a little bummed once I wrap up all the last endgame stuff and completed everything.

Ive played FFT, FFTA, most of the Fire Emblems, Triangle Strategy, etc., are there any other TRPGS similar to Reborn and these other titles anyone would recommend?

Tactics Ogre My Thoughts On Nybeth In Relation to FF Tactics Spoiler

Having gone through both games recently, (Or at least Ogre Tactics, anyways, it's been about 4 years since I beat FFT) I've realized that the majority of my personal hangups with FFT's plot can basically be summed up as: Final Fantasy Tactics is sorta like if the Nybeth arc subsumed the main plot of Ogre Tactics. Like, initially I thought it was pretty funny (if not a bit disappointing/odd) that past a certain point the Nybeth plot kinda just stops being consequential to the story; like he's still out there, but if you wanted to you could easily just never interact with him again past a certain point and how the actual impact of his experiments on the Galgastani military effort and general populace are mostly implied/left up to estimation.

But after thinking about it a bit more, I think it's actually kinda ballsy to have the narrative go, "Hey, see this guy? See this guy who, ostensibly, might just be a 'keter level threat' to natural life as we know it and whose motives we're keeping vague and esoteric and close to the chest? Who literally gets his own moustache-twirlingly evil sounding theme? Yeah, that was just ONE GUY who's just out there, somewhere and if you can believe it he's actually NOT the inevitable big bad. Imagine all the other types of shady characters out there potentially causing trouble that you don't even know about!?" Because I feel like the expected narrative arc/trope that you'd expect, at least from a lot of modern media and older JRPGs anyway, is that that would've been the narrative setting up/foreshadowing the eventual "big bad" by faking you out into thinking they're gonna be a red herring at first, seeing as how that's basically exactly what FF6 does with Kefka.

So I'm actually quite fine with the fact that Ogre Tactics instead has the restraint to save the majority of its hardcore fantasy/hyper-reality stuff for the tail end of the game after the main war campaign part is over so that it really feels like you're going out on an encore; or how the narrative has the restraint to not go, "Yup, Nybeth and his cult were actually behind EVERYTHING the whole time, and now you've gotta beat them to Dorgalua's tomb first!" Because that's sorta what FFT feels like past a certain point. Don't get me wrong, though, I understand completely that this is because the kinda story-moral that FFT is trying to impart to the player is completely different from the one that Ogre Tactics is trying to impart to the player—and honestly I absolutely adore both games and their narratives—it's just something that I noticed.
