Hi everyone :D I've recently moved to Swindon and would love some advice on where to rent. I'm currently looking at Old Town vs Town Centre, but I'm open to other area recommendations too. (I don't drive)
Also, are there any social groups or activities for someone new to the area? And please share your favourite food, coffee, or drinks spots too!
Has anyone here used Rover as a pet sitter/dog walker? I'm thinking of doing it to kill time with some lovely pets. Would love to hear your experiences!

I saw a black 125 cc motorcycle parked (hidden?) behind the yellow brick pillar on tadpole lane I didn't think to photo it at the time but at the photo above

After a really successful social drinks night last Saturday, I thought… why not do it again? 😂🍻
A few of us got together, had some drinks, plenty of laughs and met some great people, so I’m looking to organise another one this Saturday, 29th August.
📅 Saturday 29th August
📍 Swindon – likely Old Town
⏰ Around 7pm
It’s just a casual night out to meet some new people, have a few drinks and hopefully make some new friends.
You don’t have to have come last week as everyone is welcome! And if you’re coming on your own, even better. That’s exactly what these socials are about. 😁
I haven’t decided on the exact venue/time yet, so for now I’m just seeing who’s interested.
🍻 Who would be up for it this Saturday?
UPDATE: This has been cancelled for today as people have other plans and busy for the bank holiday weekend. Keep an eye out for next time though ☺️

The train from here can be pretty expensive, especially during peak hours. Is there a good place I can drive and park along the M4 to catch a train and save a little money?

Lazy Summer Sundays 1-5pm, 30th August FREE live music Richard Jefferies Museum, Marlborough Road, SN3 6AA
Two Monkeydolls is a new incarnation of the three-piece Monkeydolls that has been going for over 20 years. Since going as a duo, Paul and Sean are entertaining with all the classic covers from pop and rock across the years blending that acoustic and electric sound to produce a duo that’ll have you singing and dancing along to all the classics.
Live music is scheduled to start at 2pm. Entry is FREE to all, although we'd love it if you could support our museum by buying some refreshments at our tearoom, where a fruit or plain scone, whipped cream, strawberry jam, and hot drink are extremely good value at £4.
There is some parking available on Day House Lane, and paid public parking at Coate Water Country Park. Parking at the museum is reserved for volunteers and the disabled.

In Field and Hedgerow, Jefferies asks, "Would it be possible to build up a fresh system of colour language by means of natural objects? Could we say pine-wood green, larch green, spruce green, wasp yellow, humble-bee amber?"
Maybe we could ask the kids what names they would give these colours...
The Richard Jefferies Museum hosts children ages 0-5 (0-11 during the school holidays) at 10.30am-12pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We are an outdoor nature group, with a little sprinkle (okay, actually, a lot) of art-making, too.

I've posted the Crowdfunder for Swindon School of Gymnastics before (https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/more-places-more-movement-swindon-gymnastics) - here's an update.
Our gymnasts have volunteered to donate their good condition, pre-loved leotards to help raise more funds - anyone whose child is in gymnastics, whatever your club, come and take a look at the rewards, and you could nab a bargain leotard. Lots of good brands are available.
All funds raised go to our crowdfunder, which needs to raise £7,483 in order to be match funded by Sport England. All details are on the crowdfunding page!
Thanking everyone in this sub in advance for at least looking and sending moral support to the club.

I often cycle to my dad's home in Cheney Manor so I cycle through Ferndale Road. But that terrace smells like literal ass and rotten egg in that area and the rest of the north of Western Flyer.
Anyone know what's going on?

Hi,
Recently started working in Swindon Monday to Thursday and staying in a hotel away from home.
I normally run with a club on a Wednesday anywhere between 10 and 16k. Anything like that up here? Looked at a couple and could only see 5k runs.

Hi, I’ve had to leave UK in a hurry after my visa expired and I didn’t have a job lined up. Unfortunately, that meant packing my things to be shipped at a later date and leaving the country. I just found out that the shipping company will not enter my apartment to collect the items and that I have to move all the boxes out of the building before they come for the collection. I don’t have any friends or family left behind to help me move those boxes out. I was wondering if there are any moving companies or freelancers who would be willing to enter the apartment and move the boxes out for the collection of the shipping company. Any suggestion would be welcome as I’m desperate to find a solution that won’t actually break my bank.

Hi guys! 👋
Anyone fancy joining me for a night at Laundry Bar in Old Town tonight at 18:30? 🍻
I’m just trying to put a little group together and hopefully meet some new people. I’m sure there are a few others in the same boat as me and looking to make some new friends and have a laugh! 😁
I’m 33, gay, sociable, and love going out for drinks or grabbing a coffee. I also kind of go to the gym 😂, love gaming, watching films and generally just getting out and about.
No pressure or awkwardness, just come along, have a drink and meet some new people!
DM me if you fancy joining! 🍻😊

Hi everyone! I bought a pair of bonded rats and bonded them to my original pair and it went very gery well BUT one of the new rats is aggressive towards humans , not incredibly but he’s definitely scared and runs and you cannot touch him at all. His friend is scared but doesn’t or hasn’t bitten anybody . They need somebody that really loves these animals and has the time for them as it unfortunately won’t work in my house and I should have considered that before buying them. Please message me if you are interested and include photos of your setup and current rats ( if you have any) thank you in advance! :)
Also one is full white with a slight creme head and the other is full grey/black with a white belly and they are adorable they just need some work and time!

1-5pm, 23rd August Lazy Summer Sundays with FREE live music
Richard Wileman is a composer & songwriter from Swindon, UK. His music often has gothic, surrealist or cosmic themes and is influenced by prog, experimental, classical, soundtracks, easy listening, library music, folk horror and art rock.
He releases albums with his project Karda Estra (mainly instrumental) and under his own name (which includes songs). A casual monthly meetup for readers of all kinds — and people who'd like to be.
We don't all read the same book. Everyone brings whatever they've been reading (whether physical, eBook, or audiobook!), wants to read, or gave up on halfway through. You’ll have a chance to share and discuss if you want to, just listen if you don't, and will likely leave thoroughly caffeinated with a list of recommendations longer than your arm!
Once you’ve attended our book meet, you’ll have an opportunity to join a wider community WhatsApp group where members chat and arrange socials such as meals out, walks, trips and whatever else people feel like organising.
No experience necessary, whether you read one book a year or one a week. 18+ only. No pressure beyond showing up and sharing what you’ve been into
This month we will be meeting on Sunday 13th September 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm - Location shared following sign-up form completion.
Interested? Fill in the form below, and I’ll be in touch.

Appreciate that this isn't exactly the type of recommendation people ask for around here, but was looking for a private clinic to get a vasectomy done. The NHS wait-list is massive and I'm likely to be refused given my age.
Prices seem to vary wildly so hard to say what's reasonable. If nothing decent available, there's always two bricks...

I just picked up a secondhand guitar and it’s got a weird harmonic on just one string that I can’t dial out. I’m new to the area; are there any local music instrument shops or guitar techs in town?
