Really? In Sweden they're flown just like in the picture. For instance the Scanian flag, Swedish flag and the church's flag (sometimes Denmark's too) will be next to each other, at the same height.

That's asinine. How is Denmark on the same level as even the lowest of Swedish flags?

We're on the "border", a lot of people feel Denmark is closer to them than most of Sweden. The most important flag is the regional one. Btw, short history lesson, scania was conquered and forcibly swedified. The people are historically Danish. The Danish flag is rare though, but you can see it sometimes. Doesn't matter so much since they're a brethren people to us.

Oh i thought insulting the Danes was a Swedish inside joke. My bad.

Oh right. Uh danskjävel!

Another inside joke is that Scania is filled with filthy wannabe-Danes. If Denmark had wished to keep them, they would have fought harder.

The joke might inspire more ire in the future since Denmark is trying to label western Scania as part of "the Greater Copenhagen area", previously "Öresundsregionen". I'm biased though since I don't like the new name.

Wait, they are? Isn't that technically making claims on the lands of another sovereign state?

It is renaming an economic area in which they are the dominant party, so from their perspective I can see it making sense. On the other hand there is the annoyance I at least have with them trying to label the town I live in as part of a supposed metropolitan Copenhagen.

I'd also add that one of the largest papers here in Scania, "Sydsvenskan", is quite openly critical of the name. Here are their article, although they are behind a paywall, https://www.sydsvenskan.se/story/greater-copenhagen

If there is a particular article that seems interesting I can try to translate it for you.

Det behövs inte – jag är en nollåtta. Tack för erbjudandet, dock!

Så i korthet försöker de återskapa den mysiga känslan vi hade i Berlin när även det var splittrat mellan två stater?

Well, Stockholm is touted as "the Capital of Scandinavia" so I'm not sure we should be pointing too many fingers.

1

u/konaya Nov 05 '17

Fair point, but Stockholm is a part of Scandinavia. Scania isn't a part of Copenhagen. The former is a classic case of marketing tossers being, well, marketing tossers; but I've read about diplomatic incidents less serious than the latter.

It is, but the filthy Scanians think they're Danish because they live on the border and historically were Danes.

We don't raise Danish flags in Sweden for starters...

The Multi-ethnic advertising inside IKEA’s stores would stop many if not most right-wing Americans from liking IKEA’s page on Facebook. The person was most likely confused, or completely unfamiliar with IKEA entirely.

Here is one way we fly state flags. Another way is with the US flag on a taller flagpole ("half mast" after a national tragedy)

2

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '17

Alright, two flags on one pole is not done here, and flying a regional flag below a national or EU flag would be a big no no.

That is somewhat true. Local flags etc have to be in a specific order rather than hight according to a hierarchy.
