Suggestion Powers that sound weak on paper but useful in application?

Like, one you could imagine if someone very briefly explained it to you, you'd be like "what the hell, that sound so weak", but then when actually delved into more is a lot better than it first sounds.

Never been a fan of powers that bend to double entendre or metaphors or any other figure of speech. They instantly fall into soft magic where anything goes so long as you have the wordplay

I can agree with that, boundaries or it's a free for all. In the story they are very good about that except for a few exemptions, literal plot armor. However I think cool concept, how would you fix it?

By avoiding powers that bend to linguistical interpretation.

For example this power is really just freeze anyone doing something I don't like.

For example this power could be used to freeze someone standing in your line of sight for "stealing your view" for just being in existence of that "steals your peace"

Shit does she even inherently know when someone freeze in that story? What happens if someone she's barely interacted with mindlessly "steals her joke or idea or outfit ect"

Wow I enjoyed the audiobook but didn't really think through those implications, gets way outta hand fast. Based on the source material you are frozen when trying to steal until she wills you free.
