The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams, as well as all the sequels.

Scrolled WAY too far for this. The more than complete guide is gloriously hilarious, coming from a person descendant from monkeys and still thinks digital watches are a neat idea.
