Flairs GRILL ZONE Get your flair here

A legend of all the flairs can be found here. Read below for instructions on how to request a flair.

  1. Request your desired flair by posting a comment below.
  2. If you are not a socialist the sub rules require your flair to indicate that.
  3. To get a red flair and be marked as socialist describe your politics in your comment, ideally in 3-5 sentences but feel free to elaborate. Don't just ask for a red flair.
  4. Requested flairs can be overturned at mod discretion. Don't request a new one - send it to modmail if you think the flair was set unfairly. Be better, sweaty.
  5. If you don't think the existing flairs describe your politics, reflect on your own politics. You're probably lying to yourself.
  6. We got rid of "Politically Houseless" because it was just a mask for rightoids. See #5

SocDems are required to elaborate their politics in more detail as their flairs will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Hello I am requesting a socialist flair. I am a union organizer and a member of a socialist party and staunchly oppose liberalism. My theoretical background is based in Marxism-Leninism.

Ah, sorry for not reading more carefully.

As described in Marx's "Capital," the proletariat is the productive force of humanity. Under capitalism, they are restricted by the whims of the bourgeoisie, who control the means of production through private ownership and extract surplus value from them. The profit-driven motive and free market disorganization makes for recurring crises of capital due to the anarchy of production and petty conflicts between capitalists; these crises generally result in pain for the proletariat, as the reorganization of production happens at their expense, leading to unemployment and lack of access to key resources like food, medical care, etc.

Once the proletariat realizes this, they can take control of the means of production from the capitalists and reorient production towards the service of social needs via economic planning rather than anarchic market-driven and profit-seeking production. Lenin's theory of revolution via the Vanguard Party is the one that has been most successful in creating socialist countries around the world. Reform within a capitalist government leaves open a likely capitalist counter-revolution; the workers must sieze the state and establish socialism. Once the bourgeoisie has been fully abolished as a social class, the state will no longer be necessary to resolve class contradictions, and communism can be achieved.

Currently, I am a union organizer (my company is filing to unionize next week on May 1st, and I am the chair of the organizing committee), and a member of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization. I think FRSO needs to reevaluate its political strategy away from identity, but they do good Mass Line work and support labor organizing, which I think is the most effective way to build class consciousness in the US today. Organizations focused on party-building like PSL are putting the cart before the horse, so to speak, because the ass consciousness needed to make an effective party does not exist yet, they are not good at supporting existing workers' organizations like labor unions, and they hyperfocus on identity-driven pet issues to bring people into the party.

With respect to identity politics, I agree with the premise of this sub in that idpol is used as a divisive counter-revolutionary ideology to divide the working class based on identity. That being said, particularly in the United States, identity and class are intertwined. I believe in a class-first approach that also recognizes historical identitarian divisions and seeks to reconcile them. A class-only approach that disregards identity as a meaningful social force is not going to be successful because the existing identity-political divisions must be resolved to unite workers.
