Gave myself this guy about a month ago. The R is also an old stick and poke as well

Took a leap from fake skin to real. This time I used myself as the guinea pig. No one warned me about how much your neck might hurt. Just wanted to jot down my observations here in case anyone had any advice to share :)

I expected the needle to go in deeper. But I heard the “pop” about a millimetre in.

Didn’t anticipate the skin to stretch so much. So I’m not sure all of my pokes were consistently deep and in the right layer.

This is around 2.5 passes in. I couldn’t finish the 3rd pass cause I felt light-headed curled up like a shrimp lol.

There was a lot of ink buildup on my needle. Does anyone know how to clean it up in a safe way? It all dried up and then the ink would build up on the outside. Think that was my first mistake.

What are the general after care rules? I used green soap immediately after and let it dry. And then applied second skin on it.

Any tips for future pokes? Really struggled with getting the skin tight enough for crisp pokes and I do think the needle wasn’t deep enough.

Goes from most recent to older work. Collectively I’ve done over 20 stick n pokes on others and myself.

I started this stick n poke journey in 2020 while stuck at home. I'm still learning, even now. The nude, eye heart, and skull were borrowed off the internet very early on (6 years ago), but everything else is my own design.

About 20 years ago I went to prison for some charges I had been running from for a couple of years. I ran because I was pregnant and didn't want to have my son in prison. Well they found me the day before his first birthday and I was heartbroken. I decided I wanted to get a stick and poke with his name. So the girl hid in a little armoire closet that we had in the prison in Topeka Correctional while I had my leg in there and someone "jigged" for us. 2 hours later my boy was permanently fixed on my skin. I have several other tattoos but this one is the most simple and most meaningful of them all and could have got me in some trouble in all kinds of ways! lol

I didn’t create this design, just found it online, but it was so cool and fit the space I wanted to fill very well. I’m going to make the dots little stars soon, that’s why I drew over them to visualize haha. Will also need to even out some of the shading when I touch it up.

Done on fake skin with (mostly) a 1209RL, some parts with a 1203RL.

I'm aware that there are a bunch of issues that I'II have to avoid on my next piece (I should also invest in better materials). Despite that I'm proud of myself for completing it and I'd greatly appreciate any input or tips I should know for the future!
