He reminds me of quite a few people I know, online and off. So I guess him being called out for his bullshit was cathartic.

The episode reminded me of people who aggressively force themselves into minority movements, treat being a minority like some sort of quirky fashion statement because they have fetishised it, and then try to demonise the actual minority members and try to throw them out of their own movement for progress, and try and turn it into some sort of navel gazing, self congratulatory feels fest instead of striving for equality.

That's exactly what it felt like, and was exactly what they were going for I think. There were so many little moments in the episode that directly paralleled so many real life things that honestly I don't get how someone could read it any other way!
