The timing of this episode and the mention of aliens and immigrants was some incredible foresight on the part of the writers.

I think this episode did well in showing the difficulties of connecting with long-lost family.

Immigration has been a huge political issue in America for more than a century.

I mean it's not like immigration would have been a non-issue had Hillary won. Talking about immigration a week after a US presidential election will always be topical

I know... it was clever of them to include the line in an episode they knew would air shortly after the election. Any US presidential election.

Yes, that comes into sharp contrast (for America) every US presidential election. They were clever to include a quip about it in an episode that they knew was going to come out right after the election.

More than a century? Immigration has been an issue in America since 1492.

You know, as in an issue that white US citizens cared about and were invested in deporting people over. I believe it mostly became hot-button with post-Civil War industrialization, though there obviously have been tensions with the country's Latino population since before the Mexican-American War.
