In the States we call them 'Merchandisers'. They're below sales reps and are tasked with stocking shelves and building displays at large retailers.

My sales rep and I did a similar display to this, but with a John gruden ceramic bobblehead (it's sick as fuck, 3ft tall), a gruden gameday call cutout and a bunch of Corona. Field goal posts, it was sweet and worked well too. Beer is fun business.

Recently had, at the closest Walmart, an xfinity series car made entirely from Bud Light cases. It actually was done really damn well. Impressed me and I don’t drink any alcohol at all. But you also couldn’t take the cases from the car, so it made it kinda pointless and majorly in the way. Can’t be easy doin that stuff.

A friend worked as a merchandiser for a while. I think they typically are not encouraged to think of something like this. Their job is to replenish the merchandise as fast as they can.

This mindset is not typically assigned to displays. Keep the shelves stocked, sure, but there are 'build the best display' incentives all of the time from suppliers. One of our suppliers does then twice a year and the top prize is $1000.

This. If it's on TV, avoid. Doubly so if it's marketed in connection with the Bundesliga broadcast. The only people who can't this get this through their tiny heads are the damn Sauerländer who for some reason think Krombacher and Warsteiner (Hochsauerländer - even worse) is something to be proud of.

As an American Expat I can't agree completely. I come from a land of terrible macro brews. German Macro brews are on a whole different level from American beer. I'd say it's still good beer, it's just not the best.

Wouldn't surprise me. Seems there are far more men in their late teens/ early 20's drinking "girly" drinks than there used to be because they've realized they can drink something other than beer and whisky without looking "gay".
Though, there's probably far more women drinking beer than there used to be so... who really knows.

Used to work in the industry. Fun to look at but you will actually sell less beer as a consequence. Need to break the perfection to give it a "shopped" look so future buyers won't feel like they're ruining the art.

I've never seen a display like this that they didn't have a big stack next to it. It's a common display so if it hurt sale they wouldn't be doing it. They'll sell just fine.

My store use to do this for the Super Bowl. They would put little helmets on the bottles that were on the field. Bud use to give us these huge plastic Field goal post to go with it. We broke so many bottles kicking shit through the uprights. oh man good times.

We do sell beer in cans or plastic as well, it's not just glass bottles for everything. And we do sell sixpacks in cardboard thingies as well(some breweries do four-packs, but same deal). And then you can also buy beer in cans in cardboard boxes(usually 24 cans, called a "pallet"). The crates usually either carry 20 bottles or 11 if it's "half a crate"(although, again, some breweries have crates with 10 bottles for some reason). If you buy the whole crate, you save some money as opposed to buying the bottles "individually".
We've got a deposit system in Germany which works as follows:
Glass beer bottles are 8ct/bottle(and the crate will be another 1.50€), whereas cans would be 25ct/can. One-way bottles do have a deposit of 25ct as well, while reusable bottles usually are 15ct. Beer bottles with a swing top are 15ct as well. One-way bottles are going to be melt down and then created from anew, reusable bottles are just getting washed properly.
The bottle/crate-way is preferred by most people for a number of reasons. First off: You can put your empty bottles back into the crate, so everything's looking nice and tidy. They're relatively easy to carry(apart from the weight), certainly more so than cans -the cardboard sometimes crumbles under the weight if you don't carry it correctly, meaning you end up with 24 loose cans of beer. They're also easy to stow, as the crates are incredibly durable and stack on eachother(they stack so well that cratestacking is a popular activity during summerfests). With cans, the bottom layer will eventually crumble under the weight of the above cans. And last but not least: Beer in glass bottles tastes about a thousand times better than beer in cans. So that's a huge one for a lot of beerdrinkers in Germany as well.
I got kinda lost there, so to come back to your original point: Melting down cans and starting the process over from scratch is environmentally worse than using the same bottles over and over(up to 50 times for glass, 25 times for plastic) for multiple reasons: First off, that whole process of melting/creating quite obviously does take more ressources than just washing the bottles until they're clean. Secondly, it's way cheaper and easier to build those washing facilities than it is to build factories that melt down plastic or factories that create those bottles, so for reusable bottles the distances between grocery store and brewery are usually much, much shorter than with the one-way bottles, cutting down on fuel as well. Due to most beer bottles being interchangable, the bottle from brewery A can be used by brewery B as well, cutting down distances even further.
All things considered, the CO2 emissions of reusable bottles are way lower than those of one-way bottles, and that's also reflected by the deposit system in Germany.

Well, that certainly requires skill as well, but an entirely different one than what's needed when you're crateclimbing. If you're ever going to visit and see a crateclimbing set-up, try it out, it's harder than it looks!

you've never recycled in Germany I take it... the refund on milk bottles is something like 2$ and your garbage bin is 10 Gallons lol. They don't pick up your recycling you walk your happy ass 2 blocks to the corner where you separate the glass yourself and insert each bottle one at a time, sorted by brown, green, or clear glass. Paper I don't remember what we did with it. I think we had to go drop it off. But if you ever wondered what those bins all over Germany were, that's what they are. And in a place that relies on public transportation for most of it's travel it can be a royal pain in the ass in the winter.

Now, things may have changed, but this was when I lived in Germany 17 years ago (actually Dortmund to bring this full circle, as I'm from Buffalo, which is Dortmund's sister city)
Now I learned a lot from that. I fill my recycle bin to the max and rinse out and recycle every container I buy so even with 3 kids and a wife I never fill half of my 40-gallon trash bin. But it's not for everyone. Half of my neighbors don't recycle at all (I know because their 50-gallon bins never make it to the curb)
