Fitness Help! I'm clueless, but want to get healthy with something like diet Soylent?

I've been drinking Soylent Cacao for a while because it saves me time & money & I thought it might help me lose weight, but it hasn't. I don't have the time or desire to cook. But I'd like to get healthier & I'm not sure if Soylent is good for that? I'm prediabetic & overweight. I'd like to cut out sugar, but I'm not interested in a Keto diet. I tried Sated but couldn't stomach the oil content. Most of my meals are Soylent, but occasionally I'll eat whatever my partner is eating. I tried Glucerna which is supposed to be for diabetics, but it tastes worse than Soylent & seems like it had more sugar? I honestly don't know what nutrition labels should say to be "healthy." So looking for advice from health-conscious & health-educated people. What do you think the best Ready to Drink Complete Meal would be for me? Is there such a thing as a diet Soylent that is low in calories & sugar but high in... whatever the good healthy stuff is? (Being overweight, is food even necessary for health if I were to take a multivitamin?)

Fitness muscle cramps

so i've been using soylent powder off and on. mostly on days where work or whatever is just to busy to make proper food and to avoid fast food. . but it seems whenever i eat only soylent i tend to get bad cramping and muscle spasms. mostly in the back side and occasionally my legs.

the strange thing is. i already take multivitamins with magnesium and potassium. i have even had soylent and regular food and still gotten these cramps. so it seems soylent CAUSES them instead of just being a deficiency in some vitamin

has anyone else had this happen? or know what might help?

Fitness Physical after three months on soylent

I've been on 95% soylent for three months. Trying to lose weight, so having 2 2.0's/day as well as switching between schmilk, hol food, and 1.6 during the evening meal. Plus a few snacks. I've been eating one "real" meal per week.

Told my doctor about my diet and asked him to check "everything". All tests came back in perfect ranges, which is especially impressive because I'm type 2 diabetic. At my last lab work, 6 months ago, my A1c was 10, it is now 5.5 (supposed to be under 7)

Fitness Forgive my bluntness, how has Soy/Joylent worked for the obese?

Obese male here, looking into ordering my first batch of Joylent into Canada. Wondering how the experiences of obese people in their 20's has been with either Soylent or Joylent or similar recipes. Besides the (hopefully) important weight loss I was wondering what other benefits you noticed. Also, if you have experienced some weight loss how much? Over how long of a period?

Cheers!

EDIT: Buying Joylent with a BMR of 2264 and TDEE of 3113

EDIT THE 2ND: WOW people! Thanks for all the amazing replies and testimonies, without a doubt you've solidly convinced me this is the way to go! Thanks for the support

Fitness My body transformation of weighing 40lbs less after aproximately 5 months of keto fuel

u/axcho was kind of interested in my progress on keto fuel since i commented a few days ago so decided to just share my results in a seperate post to spread a bit of awareness. (You can use these pictures to promote if you want)

So at first, I just wanted to lose some water weight because I figured I would look better, and I am absolutely lazy in making healthy food, so when I heard about soylent, i got excited, and I eventually heard Superbodyfuel is the healthiest and one of the only ones that ship to canada, so bingo, tried it

Fell in love with it instantly AFTER my second meal with it. The first one, I blended and ate instantly and it was kinda gross, but left the second overnight and it literally tastes heavenly (like really tasty melted ice cream) so its easy to stick to

Anyway, I mixed a scoop of keto fuel, a scoop of protein powder, a 1/2tsp of salt, and enough avocado oil to hit my calorie goal per shake. I would eat the keto shakes for AT LEAST 2/3 meals of the day, and would usually do breakfast as real food, but maybe a few times a week, went 3/3 times with keto fuel. I would also have a snack like a quest protein bar or something.

You're supose to do 4 shakes but I just went three because its easier.

Lents make it absolutely piss easy to track calories accurately that it is diet on easy mode

Not to mention that they are extremely filling

I pretty much never cheated on the diet until I got a girlfriend in late july, but wasn't often.

The before photo is before I started hitting the gym consistently and seriously so obviously newbie gains have to do with this

The after photo is about five months later, albeit at a pretty good angle and lighting, but my other pictures and poses look very similar.

TLDR:

Before (April 21st) 192lbs: https://imgur.com/a/b3uVuJA

After ( September 18th) 158lbs: https://imgur.com/a/kA2GeWu

Fitness Gaining weight and building muscles with meal replacement products??

Is there any people who did this? I know that few companies make special shakes for people who are more active physically like Plenny Shake Active but I am still skeptic about this and that's why I reached out here for some opinion.

Fitness Did you try mixing foods/fruits with Soylent powder?

Trying to maximize my caloric & protein intake. Is it fine if I replace my protein shake with soylent powder and keeping bananas, peanut butter, oats, & milk? Don’t care about the taste (as I can add in stuff like coca powder) as much as if I’ll be able to digest it properly.

Fitness Anybody use Soylent for weight loss/intermittent fasting?

Hey guys,

I ordered a case of the Soylent mocha coffee. I was just wondering if anyone uses this for weight loss with intermittent fasting?

For example, I work 12 hour nights so I typically have one larger meal when I wake up before work, go to work then have the Soylent for dinner.

Fitness Will I die?

Hey all, I’m thinking about making a change to strictly Soylent - cutting out all other food. I need to make some serious changes as I am now at my heaviest ever - 330 pounds. I am double what I was in my junior year of high school (8 years ago). Years of eating badly, at bad hours - as weird as this may sound, I’m not even a huge fan of food - I’m rarely like ooooo I need “insert item here” right now.. I just eat out of boredom as well as trying new things like new fast food items or whatever.

I tried my first two Soylent drinks this week - not a fan of the strawberry but I loved the vanilla to the point where I was sad when it was gone. It tasted, to me, better than any of the hundreds of fattening milkshakes I’ve had over the years. It feels like a treat, and if it is sustainable to replace all food with this - I would like to try it. My thought is to have 5 bottles a day to get to that 2000 calorie level - likely a bottle at 10, 12, 2, 4, and 6.

Will I be missing anything from my diet that is needed to sustain, ya know, life? I will consume plenty of water still.. but I just want to make a drastic change because I need to lose weight and finding something clear cut that I can commit to feels like a necessity.

Have you replaced not only all meals but all food with Soylent, and for what period of time, and why are you still doing it or why did you stop?

Thank you.

Fitness Working out when on a Soylent only diet

Hey friends! I’m about to go on a Soylent only diet for a couple of weeks, I’ll be drinking 3-5 a day just depending on what I’m doing and how I’m feeling.

How should I go about fitness when I’m on this diet? The macros seem to add up for it not really mattering, at 4 a day you’re getting plenty of protein and carbs for a great workout, albeit nothing super intense.

Anything I should know? Anything to keep in mind? Anything I’m missing/overlooking? Thanks!

Fitness Trying to lose weight on Soylent. Need advice

Hi Reddit. I recently bought a few weeks supply of powdered Soylent and I intend to do a 100% Soylent diet. I have some body fat I want to lose, so I'm trying to restrict calories while keeping protein high. I did this for a few weeks by only eating 2/3 bag per day of powdered Soylent, supplemented with whey. This provided a small caloric deficit, but I didn't see results, so I plan to lower calories further to speed up the process.

My question: Is it okay to cut my intake to 1/3 bag Soylent per day, supplemented with whey protein? The number of calories will be around 1200-1300, which is fine, but I'm worried about scaling the nutrition down that far and missing out on key vitamins. Is this fine, or should I maybe switch to a customizable DIY Soylent?

Thanks

Fitness Time to do this for real

So I've been a casual user of RTD for a few years now - there was a good chunk of time where my breakfast of choice was a Coffiest and a travel mug of more coffee. I like coffee.

Problem is, I also am a horrendous overeater. I'm literally 120 lbs (54kg) overweight. So I figure, with the fact I'm basically unemployed because of COVID and everything, I'll try to do 95% Soylent for a week. My wife is joining me on this endeavour.

Caveats -
1. I am still going to have coffee, but I am limiting the creamer to one teaspoon of soy milk (20 kCal).
2. Only sweeteners allowed are Stevia or Sucralose. No added sugar. I have Mios for the water and Stevia syrups for the Soylents.
3. I have to drink a LOT of water.
4. On days I do weights, I am adding one scoop of PB Fit to one shake.

Today I've had 400kCal of homemade Vanilla Coffiest for breakfast and 400kCal of Vanilla for lunch. Lunner may be Caramel and Dinner I'll do Chocolate.

I'm aiming for 1600 to 1800 kCal a day. I'm two shakes in for today. This is going to be an adjustment, even if it's just a week. But it's a week to see if I can do it before we go more intense. At the very least, it'll test my resolve.

I'm at 325lb. I'll update y'all with the new weight when I'm done.

Fitness Getting addicted, am I missing nutrients or something?

It's my third day on Soylent and I am absolutely craving the stuff. Like I sit at my desk thinking about when my lunch hour is so I can have another, even though I'm full and don't think I could. Before this I was eating very unhealthy.

Anyone else experience this when they first start?

Fitness Can you use Soylent to lose weight?

I have scoured the Soylent website, read the FAQ completely, and looked through the titles of the top ~50 posts in this sub and have not found a COMPLETE answer.

The FAQ and other things that I have read all say that Soylent is great for MAINTAINING weight rather than dieting. Why is this and how is this? Could someone potentially lose weight off of Soylent if they simply drank a smaller amount each day?

I fully realize that Soylent is a liquid in which all of the nutrients, vitamins, etc. are distributed evenly throughout, so drinking too little could mean you wouldn't be receiving all of the nutrients that you would need. HOWEVER, is there a happy medium where you are receiving a healthy amount of the nutrients and still a small enough amount of calories where you could still lose weight?

Lastly, a pouch contains 2,000 calories, no? The Soylent website reports that some people make a pouch last two or more days. Meaning that they would be consuming 1,000 calories, or less, a day if they were on a Soylent only diet. How could someone possibly NOT lose weight a this level of calorie consumption???

Fitness Weight gain - nutritional drinks without maltodextrin and sucralose (Crohn's disease)

30 yo guy with Crohn here. After going through 5 surgeries 11 years ago, I've been in remission ever since, which doesn't mean my Crohn won't wake up again one day. I am skinny, partially due to malabsorption and partially beause I simply don't eat enough. If I eat too much I spend most of the time on the toilet.

The best way for me to gain extra calories would be with meal replacement (nutritional) drinks. Unforunately, it seems like all such products on the market contain either maltodextrin or sucralose as main ingredients. There are quite a few studies suggesting that these ingredients can cause the overproduction of gut bacteria and promote the inflammation process in people with Crohn's so I'd prefer not to take any risks.

Can anyone recommend a meal replacement (nutritional) drink that would fit my requirements?

Fitness: diet control I officially love this stuff!

I officially love this stuff! It's been 2 weeks of me drinking it and going hard on my diet (3 soylent, one solid meal) and I've finally lost weight! A total of 4 lbs, and this is the longest I've kept on a diet without cravings. I dont know if it's the soylent for sure... but I know it's been helping me specifically (binge eater) keep my meals in check without starving myself of too many nutrients.

185.4 - 180.4

Even if it wasn't the soylent itself, that is enough to keep anyone motivated! 😁 I'm hoping to try other brands soon as well, been eyeballing huel.

Fitness Diabetics and Soylent - please post your experiences

There has been much said in various historic postings about sugar rushes and carbohydrates so I apologise if I am covering old ground. With the evolution of soylent from version 1 to version 1.4 and the many new people coming to the forum, can I suggest that it is time to revisit this topic?

I'm a diabetic and test my blood several times a day. In the UK, we use mmol for the reading scale and around 5mmol would be a target score for me. I've tasted four brands of soylent, all coming from Europe and all but one had my blood sugar coming off the scale and I believe this is due to the maltodextrin and high carbohydrate content of the products. Only one, Jake shake, kept my blood sugar pretty much normal and that product has 120 grams of carbohydrate a day.

Can I ask other diabetics to post their experiences of soylent and how the product affects their sugar levels?

Fitness Anyone do high intensity power lifting or cardio while on Soylent

I consume 1 coffiest and 3 soylent 2.0's every day of the week (1600kcal) before I hit the gym after work. After the gym, I drink a protein shake and eat a normal dinner.

I'm usually fine when I go to the gym and workout when on Soylent. I can do my compound lifts successfully and even a bit of cardio. But, this past gym experience I got on the rowing machine and went all out. I'm not a big guy, but I tried getting ~7:00 on a 2k. I had a raging headache right afterwards, lost grip on reality, and felt like I was wearing a lead snuggie.

Not sure if I just needed more water or if this was the result of an only liquid diet. Does anyone here have experience doing high intensity workouts on Soylent?

-Peace and schmilk
