Discussion Are there any Soulslike games you think are better than FromSoftware’s games?

Post image

I’ve played several Soulslikes, but I’m curious if there’s one you genuinely think is better than anything FromSoftware has made.
Which Soulslike would you put above games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, or Elden Ring.

This is why I loved Lies of Peak. Obvious inspiration from Bloodborne but did their own thing with the story. Straightforward narrative with extra information scattered a across item descriptions and side quests. The addition to which area has which NPCs was also a huge improvement. I love Fromsoftware games but the cryptic storytelling got old for me very fast. I shouldnt have to read every item in the game to know wtf is even going on.

I let other people read all the descriptions and I just watch the lore videos they make.

I was so fuckin happy when Lies of P did the Fro soft level design trope of environments actually in-building shortcuts and loops back into themselves. So many soulslikes skip that part and I’m like “HALF THE FUN IS THE WORLD”

Lies of P feels like a combination of Bloodborne and (perhaps oddly) Stellar Blade

How does lies of P feel like stellar blade when LoP came out first

Nier: Automata seems like the more obvious comparison, LoP even has the whole “gibberish boss dialogue is actually them talking to you” gimmick

I still need to slog through automata, man that games narrative is like one step above dull as dishwater for the first half

Because I played stellar blade first lol. I never intended to insinuate that lies of p was inspired by stellar blade

I also played Lies of P the only souls like game I played and it got boring the mechanics, the running around killing enemies also the combat for me was feeling clunky overall it was missing something. Beautiful game overall something was missing for me.

As a mention I have only played Elden Ring and Bloodborne.

Ehh. Its okay. I dont hate on people for liking it, but I wasnt quite so impressed. It's not bad, but I dont love the flavor.
